Nothing special is it?

At home in the UK the car just seems to blend in, nice but nothing particularly special - but leaving the restaurant in Italy tonight, the kids, boys around 11 yrs were looking at the car it seemed almost awe struck - they were delighted when we waved back - amazing we are quite near Milan and there’s some posh kit made in that area!

Cars are just worth so much more money in the rest of Europe, and the majority of the world! That alone makes a big difference to something standing out.

I think they genuinely appreciate nice cars there and there is an attitude of "gone on 'ya" for having a nice car. In our country, people tend to think c*** when someone has a nice car.
Funny enough, a lorry driver shouted "w***er" at me for just driving along doing nothing wrong whatsoever with the roof down the other day in my white work shirt and my Ray Bans on. Says it all....

So much more love for all sports cars. Been on a few road trips and kids would chase you down the street wanting to here the engine. I remember driving into san pellegrino with 4 911s a boxster and Cayman and it seemed the town stopped to come and have a look.

Same in Modena. Completely different attitude on the continent.

Magic

I was talking to a car guy here and he says that you have to have plenty dosh to own something with 250Kw
Up to a certain level the road tax equivalent is reasonable (more than ours) but it increases €20/ Kw after the threshold. Maybe that’s why they don’t see a lot of impractical things like the 35is around here?

I seem to get a lot of hate in traffic in the UK just for being young and owning a nice BMW. When I drove a crappy MK2 Focus at 19 no one cared and I probably drove more like a twat then. I felt more aggression towards me when I got a MK2 MX-5, but owning a Z4 is something else... I started really disliking driving around town in my E85 because of the bad looks I got.

Driving with the top down during winter at or below the speed limit near a residential area/near a high street = "twat", "posh c**t" (usually from someone with a considerably more expensive car :?), "slow down".

tl;dr Don't live near Slough

But you do live near Slough - it's the same dialling code as Windsor!

I know what you mean though - I sometimes get let out of side roads or parking spaces in my E90, but very rarely in my E86!

No one *ever* lets me out when in the 35is with the roof down. The more well kept and shiny she is, the worse people are.

People really don't like you having nice things in this country and that is very sad.

My old E86 Coupe was very well received in the UK, I think they look a lot more special than they are. Always being let out of junctions and waved along.

Bright orange 35iS with the roof down? Not so much. Can feel the eyeballs everywhere and it’s not complimentary!

I get the ‘slow down’ crap all the time in the Peak District, it’s always tourists who cross the roads with 27tons of gear on for a 2 hr walk.... or walk on the wrong side if the road even if there’s a path on the other side, I had another the other day, just ‘cos I was in the boxy, 10 mph below the speed limit and it happens, I pull up now and give them what for, I’m so f**ked off with it, they don’t like that....

The only time a lorry driver can look down at anyone. :?

Yes, that's what I tried to imply, I live too close to Slough which seems to have a higher than usual concentration of rude, judgemental people. Ascot is quite bad for the "slow down" crap.

I have noticed, everyone seems to drive in the right lane, and when behind said offenders, they never move out of the way.

When a golf tries it, they move....

Maybe the car doesn't have that move out of the way vibe... there is a german word for it...

Here in Spain no one lets you out at junctions no matter what you drive! But at least they don't behave like morons towards you when you have a nice car!

I remember when I got my Zed and we were driving through Henley OT, a drunk on a bench shouted out 'oi Baldy'
and I'm a right old hair bag
Then another time, we were driving through a narrow village and I had right of way, a twat in a Focus pushed through and I could see he was going to say something...so I beat him to it and shout F&ck off! as he passed, made me feel better

Perceived value is key, I get the "your lucky" when they look at my old zed, oblivious to the fact that their Mondeo cost twice as much., and yes we never let let out of roads. I go everywhere with roof down, and yes it seem to make a difference, I'm sure they feel better if it's pissing down with rain.
But then I never go out in the rain unless forced too, as it spoils my enjoyment of the zed, even the exhaust sounds muted and different. And I love my snarling zeds, I have never driven a car so much on overrun as this to hear the popping etc, oh bliss, so f**k em, we got it so enjoy it.

As an American in the deep South I am wondering what is a w****r oh wait I think I get it! Yes, never mind.
But the other one, the c **** word maybe you could send me a private translation message. Thanks
As to the topic, at first I seemed to get compliments at the gas station (silver E89). That was a while back. Now no-one seems to notice or care what anyone else drives or what it might look like. If I do any mods it would just be for my own benefit. The E89 is fairly rare here. They sold poorly, probably because of the Corvette (C7), compared to Europe. There are quite a few 911s and Caymans and some M cars around and of course Corvettes everywhere.
I do feel like a jerk (w****r) if I wear a BMW cap that was given to me at the BMW performance center at the factory here. So I guess I can relate.
Gas (petrol) only costs about $2.80 US gallon, for 93 Octane so we have a lot of SUVs, Mustangs and Camaros. The Ford F150 truck is the best selling of any American made vehicle. The Turbo 6 can easily stay with the 35I, but I digress.
I envy your easy access to country roads and high speed limits there and on the continent.
This forum is fun to follow and more informative than the USA forums
Thanks
