Notchy Steering - refurb / replace steering col?

Hello everyone,

I have a Z4 e85 - 2006 - 2.5lt (98k)

She's been well looked after and is in great condition - however she's got the 'notchy steering' issue that seems to be pretty well documented on here, so I know it can be quite common. With mine, its noticeable only after an hour or so of driving, or almost immediately on very hot days.

I was wondering if anyone could answer a few questions for me? :

1) As this seem to be a known issue, could I get my current steering column refurb'd?

2) If I chose to replace the steering column, would I need the replace the servo too (I'm not very technical but when I look on ebay you can buy them with or without)

3) Does any know a person or place on the north of England that does this - refurb or replace? (Does the Z Shed nr Liverpool do this kind of stuff)

4) Is there a proven fix that doesn't require a steering column referb or replacement (I've been doing some research but can only find a few things that have worded for some but then not for others)

Thanks in advance for any help or advice :)

John

Hi - thanks for the reply. Theres lots of stuff and lots of different suggestions - some people say something work, and others say they had no luck. Do you know of a easy fox that seems to be doing the trick? Thanks

I know he's not near you, but Stuart (bigwinn) has done a lot of work with this issue. Usually a case of rotating the spacer between the column and the eps motor a few degrees.
Try sending him a PM for more detail.

Yes he does, and priced very well. He's in Newton-le-willows

Does anyone know who can do this fix near Weybridge Surrey, I’ve tried it although I do not have the dexterity to manage it, (or the patients) :( :o

Try RBM, Hook, Hampshire. Just down the M3 from you. Get's good review's on this forum

Cheers N4LLY, I will look them up :happyclap: :happyclap: Rockhopper, I appreciate it’s a very simple fix, save as I suggested my dexterity is not as good as it was 20 years ago. Thanks for the reply :)

Is there anyone in the Torquay area that can do this, I’m not keen messing about with the steering. It isn’t happening all the time but would be nice to get it sorted.
