Help, the original owner had the car prepped for a phone as an option ( together with sat nav pro with voice input ) , i haven't used the phone yet, and have no idea how to set it up ????

i am guessing that i need some sort of lead that connects my mobile to the holder. i can find anything in the car , possibly the original owner has taken it with him to use in his E89 Z4.
whats the lead called, where can i get one for a reasonable price, if bmw prices are steep.

cheers.

You need the phone-specific cradle.

What phone do you have, as some newer phones (e.g. iPhone 4s) require a different base adapter too!

at the moment i have a samsung galaxy ace but will be changing it to a bigger mobile, possibly galaxy s 3, .......

Can you not just use Bluetooth? Or do you specifically want it in the console

Does anyone have a list out there with all the phones that BMW makes cradles for?

The phone cradle will not make the phone work - it only charges it and (maybe) links to an external aerial - pretty pointless, especially if you have a soft-top. As stevie says, you need bluetooth to get the phone to work.

I just leave my phone in my pocket, use the bluetooth link and the mike on the steering wheel. Not sure why someone would fit a spesific phone cradle unless they needed to charge the battery on the move. :?

I seem to recall the following thread was spot on when I first set up my BlueTooth Connection.

Can i use voice activate, using bluetooth ??

I don't think so. Would love to be wrong though.
apparently it says on the original options list , i can use voice commands on my sat nav as well , i think i am gonna have to sit down and properly read up on the whole thing .

My voice command works over bluetooth. The documentation I've seen indicates the cradle connects the phone to the car's aerial, as well as charging it. I don't have a cradle, haven't missed it at all. The times I had no signal, I was somewhere where I doubt a 20m aerial would have helped. And my battery lasts plenty long enough, and I'm good at recharging it every night.

I have voice control on my 5 series, and yes you can use it to make phone and sat nav commands, amongst other things. But if you have steering wheel buttons, that's probably just as easy.

Don't have voice control on my Z,but not too bothered.

really need to try my using bluetooth...someone prob spent a lot of money speccing it on the car and im yet to use it...

I used my BT exactly twice, once to mate it to my phone and once by accident. I presume phone conversations are difficult with the top down, which is the only way I like to drive, so the whole thing is wasted on me.
