Not the usual roof problem!

Hi all just after a few ideas off people basically!

On sunday i fixed my roof and since then has been working perfectly! went up and down good as new!

had it down twice today and then when i came to drive home it wasnt happening!
roof unlatches but then the light just flashes red and no motor noise?!

have manually pressed boot switch in boot but no joy!

anyone any ideas? is there a fuse for the motor or have i maybe routed cables wrongly when putting roof back on ?

What do you mean by the boot switch? The little microswitch behind the parcel shelf?

Hmm red flashing doesn't sound brilliant, normally if the microswitch isn't engaged it'll be a constant orange light that is shown. When mine was toast I think it was flashing red too :(

What did you fix in the roof at the weekend? Was it the motor? Did you refurb the unit or buy a new one when you fixed the roof?

yeh the microswitch, just checked fuses and theyre fine!

i only refurbed the motor tbh as wasnt in too bad condition, and worked like new since then!will have a look in the morning at loom etc

wondering if anyone has got pics of the correct wiring, i came up the side of the sill and then to the 'car' side of the roof mech (where the hardtop locks into)

I think you must have wired it up correctly or it would not have worked a few times-maybe it has finally given up :(

Pulled half roof off this morn to check cables and plugs and that and everything seems fine, tested power to the motor and that is fine too.

However, I connected the motor to an external battery and nothing happended, when i did this when roof was out of car it was going up and down!

Everything is pointing to motor again but fail to see how it could fail 2 hours after working perfectly? Especially when the housing and everthing was bone dry?

Going to whip the roof off again on fri morn i think to see whats happening, will keep you posted :)

Thankfully all sorted! tested all wires as said before and everything was pointing towards the motor.

Thought could be the brushes inside not making contact so after a few taps of the motor housing to try and dislodge the brushes, hey presto it works perfectly again!

As the motor had been sat in water obvs it was a bit corroded inside and the spring was struggling to press the brush properly.

Just so pleased its working again :) ideally wanted to put a new motor in but didnt take me as long as thought to get roof off so just used old motor. defo worth it to save £300+ for new motor but if anyone was to do the same just make sure you make sure inside of motor is fine :)

Cheers for comments and that, really useful forum!
