...but when do people think is the very best month to sell a roadster? March? April? Later?

Don't get me wrong, I love my girl, it's just I have a 'coupe itch' I seriously need to scratch so am thinking that next year may well be the time to go for it. Haven't told the girlfriend any of this of course, as she'd go postal. Already seems to think I'm addicted to buying and selling motors.

So what motor is likely to scratch the itch?

In terms of value I no longer believe there is any roadster related peaks and troughs as there used to be. We're not talking about cold leaky uncomfortable cars in the sprts car market.

I'm sure they behave largely as any other car affected by economic cycles, normal seasonal variations, etc. That said for sure if the sun comes out in Spring a few extra people may get the desire to buy one, so perhaps making them quicker to sell rather than more.

Z4C all the way, and if I can afford it then maybe an MC.

Thanks for the advice and I think you may be right. When it comes down to it, the car is essentially more than fine in all weathers but am guessing that it might be good to tap into that 'summers coming' market.

Unless the right car comes knocking on my door beforehand of course...then I'll be in a whole heap of trouble with the lady :!:

Interesting move from roadster to coupe.

Frankly I'd be looking in this case at the price to change. For instance right now roadsters seem to be stable and selling, but based upon some of the forum threads you can't give away a coupe right now.

Now that may be a wrong perception I have, so needs someone who's in the market right now to comment.

I think id love to have a coupe until its a really sunny day...and no matter how far down the windows go...its just not the same..

From my pov thats a good thing then. Hopefully I can either trade in or sell at a good price before leaping into coupe ownership at an achievable price.

Scratching an itch is a fruitless mission when buying cars as its always going to come back whatever you buy.

I look at Z4MC's sometimes but wonder if i really would be THAT much happier considering i would be 10k poorer and having to drive 10, 10ths to fully enjoy it.
Its the same with my mileage issue, mines creeping up to the point where resale is going to be difficult, but would i have any more fun if i bought a low mileage Zed? I doubt it. so again money down the drain really.

I've read a few threads about coupes not shifting, theres one on Pistonheads at the mo. Its a car that you come under the spell of really and will pay out the current prices for.....or you wont. A lot of people will buy Boxsters (a bloody good car) at that price.

IMO the Roadster has a far larger market / customer base; it appeals to everyone from enthusiasts like you guys, right through to people with no interest in cars whatsoever - they just want a soft top BMW. A bit like a 911 actually; 3/4 of the drivers in London bought it because it's a Porsche. No other reason. Thus demand for a ZR will be more constant from a wider group of customers, and the demand for certain specs less important. IMO you definitely see a spike in demand in the spring though as people get keen on the idea of a soft top for the summer.

On the other hand, of those who bought a Z Coupe, a larger proportion of them probably went out looking for that specific car. It doesn't have the same mass appeal (especially as they are all 3.0 plus, so no smaller engine options for those that want them). The market is definitely smaller. Having said that, currently 'big engined' stuff with 'high' running costs like the ZM / M3 / M5 / M6 don't seem to be shifting across the board... the same cars have been around for weeks and weeks.

I think the buy in autumn sell in spring advice is becoming counterproductive as so many people do it... This year on pistonheads there was a lot less zeds for sale in Late march in comparison to June. If you are happywith the condition of your 3.0 I would keep hold of it and hire a 911 for a weekend when the mood takes you.
