hi all,
on my z4 there is a panel which drops down between the seats and it looks like there should be somethind fitted on the panel...there is a narrow slot which could hold a pen or something and a wider space with a piece of velcro to hold somehing in..;...any ideas.....

Anything really. I've put a phone in there before when connected via bluetooth. Other times I've used it to hold a packet of sweets/gum to stop it from being thrown around whilst drving and hence making a rattling noise.
