Not really new... yet / What to look for.

Hello all,

I'm a previous Z3 owner scoping out the possibilities of a Z4.

Actually, I'm taking a look at a 2003 manual 3.0 this weekend and had a couple questions. Other than the normal car stuff to look for, is there anything Z4 specific I should check for? Are there any common warranty issues that I should check to make sure were completed? Is the issue with the clicking behind the seat (appears to be shock towers) a warranty repair?

Ad says it has the Sport Package. How do I tell? Clearly, it has the wheels, but what else was included. Is there a good article/site that shows what was in each available package?

Navigation / Xenons. If my research is correct, the Navigation was not available on this year. Were Xenons?

Thanks for any and all input!

Howdy.

As a former Z3 owner myself ('99 / 2.3) I can say that the Z4 seems both familiar and completely different all at once (in great ways, that is). :) I'm still learning, too, but here's a couple of thoughts...

I'm not certain about the "clicking" shock towers, though I sometimes hear a muffled "whispy" noise on VERY rough roads (or, say, going over a large speed bump). I recall this in my old Z3 and still hear it on occasion in the Z4, and believe it to be the shocks doing their thing.

The Sport Package is, I think, most easily identified by a big "SPORT" button on the center console, just to the upper left of the stick. No button, no package.

I'd think Xenons would have been an option, perhaps of the Premium Package or as a line item feature. But others with that model and year can say for certain.

Good luck and have fun scoping!

Welcome :D

Broken springs (clonking sound over bumps) and cracked rear third brake light...

Happy hunting
