Former E46 owner looking to return to my German roots with a Z4 daily driver. I'm currently in the process of getting my "zeducation" and "debating" with the significant other about colors. I like more classic Euro sports car colors like beige or brown leather with wood trim, and she likes more modern colors like alum or carbon trim with red or black leather. Sigh.... It'll probably be a month or so before I get the car, maybe more, maybe less...it just depends on what I decide I can and can't live without.

So.... sorry I don't have any pictures....*YET*!

I'm off to another section to ask some crazy mod questions!

Welcome from a former E46 then E87 owner who now has an E86 and another E46 as a daily!

IMHO Z4s aren't really about beige/cream and wood!

There are some Z4s with that sort of combination, but it isn't a 3/5 Series Diesel at the end of the day!

Look at some Z4 before you commit - and please don't buy one before you have tried the Sport seats as the SE ones don't do a Z4 justice!

Good luck, and looking forward to the photos once you have one!

Hi and welcome.

Would echo the above. The Z4 is from the 21st century and wood, even fake has no place in one.

Are you looking at the roadster or hatchback?

I agree with the comments above and with your other half regarding colour and interior.
Welcome to the forum and good luck with your search

Op is from the US and they have different opinions to Europeans on cars, especially interiors. Nothing wrong, just different..

Personally though I agree that wood and beige is old school and belongs on old Jag roadsters and similar. Z4 is a contemporary roadster and best suits such interiors.

In this case op's wife is on the money..

As an aside I purchased a jag XF and first mod was sports seats and removed the walnut trim panels for piano black

Thank you all for the warm welcome!

Thank you Mr Tidy!

Excellent suggestions. We made a small road trip a couple days ago to a euro-specialty car shop because they had three Z4s available...and the weather was PERFECT for having the top down. The one we (on a combined score) liked the most was a very low mileage 2008 3.0i AT in alpine white and black top with schwarz/traumrot/alum interior. The one I liked the most was the same year but had a Stratus Grey Metallic body, dark beige top, MT, and beige/wood interior. The combination of the rare stratus grey and the biege was stunning and, in my mind, classic and sohpisticated. But the missus wasn't having any of it. She's a wild one.

The alpine white had the traumrot M seats (heat and memory.) What a difference in look and feel. In my 330xi, I swapped the factor sport package seats for a set of M3 seats and that made a huge difference. Comfortable back bolstering, comfortable thigh bolstering. For whatever reason, though, the Z4 M seats felt great across the back but the thigh bolstering felt too tight, almost like it was applying pressure. As I mentioned, this is going to be a daily driver and I'll be doing regional business trips, so comfort is going to be important. If there's a way to put the M seat back on a standard seat base, I think that would be the best of both worlds- a hybrid of sorts.

Thank you! 21st century sports car noted, and roadster all the way. We like to take trips to the Smokey Mountains during the warmer months, and there are some great mountain roads to enjoy. There are lots of fun, twisty country roads here in Kentucky, as well.

Thank you, Marlon! I'm starting to notice a trend here.... :P

I will concede the black/red/aluminum interior was sexy, though I could probably be persuaded to either swap the aluminum to piano black or wrap it with carbon fabric.

Ok... I get it, she's probably right...

In my E46, I had an all black interior but the premium package added that dark reddish/brown wood, which I hated. It looked nice with the beige interior of my parent's older 328i, but it looked very out of place with nearly-solid black interior. I wrapped the wood with carbon fiber fabric as soon as I decided on the color and material. I loved that interior, and the service techs at the dealerships would always ask me what specialty M package I had installed because it looked like something that would have come from the factory.

I suppose I should probably get over my British roadster fantasy and embrace the more modern sports car schemes. :driving:

Thank you all again for the warm reception. This looks like a great community.

It sounds like you are getting closer!

My signature explains my Z4C colours - the first had the standard Brushed Aluminium interior, but my current one has the optional Cirrus Aluminium which is much better IMHO. Saying that in an ideal world I would have chosen extended leather or Piano Black, but there aren't too many Coupes around and I struggle with patience!

Hope you find one that is what you (both!) want soon!
