Waz, not sure if you are making fun of this type of filter or not but it DOES work.
I have a MotorGuard bypass TP (toiletpaper) filter on my truck. In fact its been on since 2000.
It is one of the reasons I can get a lot of miles out of my oil...

I have used one and many of my friends and family have as well, with very poor results. :thumbsdown: Maybe these new ones are better, I don’t know. There are many fake one's and one's that are not engineered properly.. It took me may weeks of research to come up with one that does everything that is promised/promoted.
Mine specifically is the first filter pass, then outputs the oil to the engines primary filter...
Yup sound about the same as the ones we used in the late 50s early 60’s. You could buy them at J.C. Whitney. Lots of times we would find a mass of what looked like black sh## mashed up in the nice shiny canister, the bypass valve open for who knows how long. After many years of complaints and testimonials by various mechanics, I guess they stopped manufacturing them, but maybe not. :?
The new elements look like they are meant to hold a little heaver paper than just regular toilet paper. But I am sure you could use plain toilet paper too. If you are really interested I may be able to do a little research and find some of the common problems then. Mechanics reported paper residue found in the engine components and other problems that eventually ended their popularity.
But even saying that, the sight of a canister the size of a toilet paper roll put in the engine compartment of a Zed is still funny to me. :lol: :lol:
