Not long now...

Hi :D

Have been lurking for a few weeks now reading through various threads and thought I'd say hello. Soon to be Z4 owner - 2004 3.0 SE Auto, Toledo blue, 18" 107's, full leather, M-Sport suspension - cannot wait! Photos to follow in next couple of weeks. I wasn't convinced of the auto gear box but after a fair bit of reading the general consensus seems to be that they are perfectly fine, even very good. I still need to drive the auto to be 100% sure but I'll be buying from a colleague who wouldn't drive something useless.

Originally going to go for an S2000 but the Z4 appears to be an itch I need to scratch! Looking forward to hooning around the roads of Surrey/Hampshire, hopefully with a few of you folk at some point. Love the idea of the trip across the channel.

Cheers!

Hi welcome! Fair few of us live un the counties you mentioned. Look forward to crossing paths! Good luck with the new car.

So, I finally picked up the Zed on Sunday - 2004 3.0 se auto in toldeo blue. A bit of a dodgy start as the window regulator had failed however the seller (a colleague) agreed to discount the price to cover part+labour - happy with that considering he was already doing me a deal due to not having to go through the ball ache of dealing with gumtree/autotrader morons.

The 3rd brake light had also cracked - after literally 3 minutes of research on this very forum, I discovered this is a common fault on early Z4s as bmw used the wrong tension springs to hold it in place. £65 for a new light, new springs, bosh! No problem. Thank you guys!

The car is now 'fixed', although since they replaced the window regulator (Germantech in Raynes Park) there is wind noise coming from the top right corner of the window which is very irritating. I've read on here about various ways of realigning the windows but I'm taking it back to them on Thursday seeing as I paid them to fix it. They also dented the door from the inside when fitting the regulator - fuming! Has anyone used them before? They seem like a good bunch and mistakes happen I guess..?

Anyway, enough of the nonsense...

Over 400 miles covered in the last 6 days, most of which in standard Auto with the revs rarely getting above 3000. It was changing into 2nd and 3rd way too quickly however I'm getting used to it now.

Hadn't (propery) put it in sport until today, and on some damp, slightly dark roads the thing turned into a bit of a monster. Fantastic little car. Feels planted but not quite as agile as the S2000, to be decided on a dry day I think. Anyway, knock the auto gear stick to the left and it drops a gear, knock it forward to drop another gear  then proceed to drive like a (law abiding) c#%t until the fuel light comes on. Brilliant! I intend to go out tomorrow morning and do just that.

Here's a picture I took on my phone - it has Hogs Back and A3 dust and grime all over it so I'll get it all cleaned up and take some good photos soon.

Debating whether to get a hard top for it - any reasons not too? Other than taste and cost of course...

Also considering getting one of those gaptec gadgets that allows 1 touch and remote key softtop open/closing. Anyone have any experience with these?

Cheers!

Welcome along, the zed looks lovely! Whereabouts are you based? I live in Milford and work in Petworth. I'llkeep an eye out for you :)

Hard-Top - bought mine when I got the Zed new, really useful in the winter months. It on now and will atay on until end of Feb/March depending on the weather :)
Just a case of looking for a s/h roof in your colour of getting one sprayed to match.

Roof Module - have one, excellent when getting in and out of the Zed and as its says on 'the tin' one touch to open and close the roof

Hi and welcome. Thought I recognised the dust - Hogs Back for sure!

Start saving now for a hard top. Recent Ebay sales have topped £1,000!!! :o

Thanks!

Decision made - going to get a hard top. Anyone selling? Any colour...

Will look to fit a roof module next year.
