Not Happy with MPG

go for it lol.

did a few runs around speed limit of 70 (wont say) and the turbo is popping so around 36mpg. I need to check the tank level drop, this was over 15 miles each way.

The best I see the 28i is warm engine and 40 to 50 mph where 47 to 52mpg via obc is seen. Push it above this and mpg drops. city it drops, hills it drops. But never seen it in the 30i.

Just for the record, since owning the 28i I have spent £487.87 and done 2853 miles. This excludes the 260 miles I have done since last fill up and have just under half a tank so over 150 miles left.
Now the 30i in the same period similar miles similar petrol cost and spent £672 . Thats £185 + 150 miles ( so say £30 left ) in 2 months and 2 weeks (I did not add the £65 fill up that was needed for the 30i so tank was empty at the same point).

30i v 28i now in the 28i thats £21 per week on £62 or 30% for a faster car. FACT.

it should have been called the 32i as its nearer the 35i than the 30i.

Just caught up with this one, I'm saving towards another Z 30i or 28i all would point to a 28i on the fuel front but I would have to spend a lot more to get a 28i (wait longer) and doing 7000 miles a year would cost me around £450 extra at 10 mile a gallon drop (I think) So is it worth the wait ?? The other thing that may make me wait is the fact the 28i is FASTER.. I realise the 0-60 is quicker but how much quicker in other areas 0-100/ in gear times etc. The idea of having a quicker car that looks the same and cheaper to run is starting to make me think.... Its not the £500 with tax included it just seems daft.?!?! Then again the 30i sounds great not driven a 28i so can't compare..

Just got home and the OBC is reading 34.8 - That's after 1502 miles of motoring in Germany etc.
I didn't try and be eco or hooligan, just drove as I wanted and conditions allowed.

(and I've found that the car changes up a gear at about 120/125 )

Delighted to say the least.

Sounds good to me  I averaged about 26mpg with my 30si Coupe and stats of 36/38mpg for the 28i got me thinking. :?

E89 2009 3.0i 78,000mls: Although only using the OBC, I seem to get more MPG whilst in Sport mode. I have tried it a few times now on the same run and I seem to achieve about a 5-10% improvement. On an 85 mile run through the Cotswolds, I get around 38, driving in/around the speed limit. Around town, I am lucky to see 26...

I'm a bit concerned, I'm not getting anywhere near the advertised MPG rates on my Z. I'm still driving it with kid-gloves as its only just over 400 miles on the clock, never even put it in Sport setting.

I'm now averaging 21MPG over a week of mixed use and on a 60mile long trip with Motorway/A-roads, it only averages 29 MPG. Way less than advertised and much, much worse than my old Audi which was doing up to 42mpg on the same long journey, which I do quite frequently.

Is it possible my engine is faulty/not properly tuned? It's not just the display, it genuinely is guzzling through fuel, I am finding myself filling up much more frequently than I did in my old car :-/

If I take it to the dealer is there anything they can/will do or will they just fob me off with 'driving style', 'real-world' etc??

My wife has a Mazda Cx5 2.2 diesel. Mazda claim 62mpg , we get no more than 40 out of it!

32.4MPG average achieved on a 600+ mile trip to Newcastle and back this weekend. 95% motorway, with not too many hold ups or restricted 50 zones.

This compares to around 25MPG in normal daily use.

35i with ESS Stage 2.

You can't grumble at that - even the 25mpg around town isn't that bad. My daughters 1.4 Corsa only does 29mpg around the doors!

A very impressive 41mpg on a 100 mile speed resticted motorway trip, I never get more than 32mpg on short runs around home!

Same with my 28i - consistantly 32.4 local stuff and just over 40 on motorways. Not v good and certainly nothing like BMW claims. Not a huge improvement over my 3.0 E89!
