Not Feeling It for The E89

Don't get me wrong it's a lovely motor but everything it is is everything its not when I compare it with the Z3.

Faster, comfier, more direct gear change, improved stereo, more space, sounds better, looks more agressive, improved heating system with heated seats and its more versatile with the folding hardtop.

So all that said I can't understand why I'm struggling to persuade myself to part with the Z3 which was the plan when I got the E89.

Anyone fancy a low mileage 2.3i with £9k of extras including iDrive, style 296's, loudspeaker system and only 76k miles :headbang:

I had a Z3 for a while , it didn't last long :cry: felt aged , lethargic & shared the handling characteristics of a Grimsby trawler .
I really can't see any comparison between the 2 but if you prefer the Z3 keep it a sell the E89 , it's that simple or am
I missing something :?
 
I recently sold a widebody 2.8 Z3. Mint condition, sports interior, heated seats, SS exhaust, hardtop....had to sell as ULEZ hits my address this year.

Nothing like it IMO and very underated for so long (although you'll see good examples firming up price wise now). Handled lovely, 200bhp, fantastic design and miss it every day.

Keep hold of the car that gives you joy and makes you smile.
 
I am pretty certain that e89 will sell quite quickly at the right price as it has the toys most people want.

If you like the Z3 then keep, I should have kept some of my car from many years ago and I would be able to retire with what they would be worth now. :(
 
keep what makes you happy, i dont really have the feel for older cars but my best mate loves them, remember a while back when he took a test drive in a 71 charger and he said, " nothing works inside, handles like s**t, brakes dont work, feels like a deathtrap.. i love it" :D i did giggle
 
I got quite attached to my Z3. It was the first generation 1.9 and I'd ordered it before it was launched and had to wait 15 months for delivery. It compared fairly well with other similarly priced convertibles at the time (there weren't many) in most respects. In the end I narrowed my choice to the Z3 or an Elise which was faster and a lot of fun but impractical to take on holiday in Europe for a couple of weeks. So the Z3 it was.

That was then and things move on.

With hindsight the Z3 was slow, noisy, lacking in refinement and you could feel the chassis flex disconcertingly given the least provocation.
But I kept it for 21 years and got used to its foibles and 'character'. I've no regrets getting an E89 in it's place (way more practical, refined and reliable) - yet now & again I wish I'd had the space to keep both :(
 
Have to agree with Mr T on the handling. Fun but scary things going quickly around corners. :lol:

Keep the one that puts the biggest smile on your face on those special days. That is why you buy a sports car surely. :driving: :thumbsup:
 
I think I initially got buyer’s remorse with pretty much every other new (to me) vehicle I bought. I immediately lacked familiarity and confidence. But then they grew on me and I was happy with them.

I say give it time.
 
Thanks all for the sage advice and as suggested it might just be a case of giving it a bit more time. As I said I do enjoy the car and it offers many advantages over the Z3 but in the current situation I am essentially basing my decision on limited circuit runs to an from the supermarket. Hopefully once restrictions start to ease I can make a more informed decision - time will tell :thumbsup:
 
Naff handling in the Z3 is down to sharing the same dodgy z axle from the E30.

But your’e keeping it due to the E89 not offering anything better in the ‘character’ department I think and is also the reason I kept an E36 M52TUB25 Coupe going for nigh on 20 years. Nothing seemed to surpass it in the comfort/character dept.
I had many an opportunity to move on to something newer and actually did buy something to keep at my UK place while I moved to NL taking the E36 with me.
Clocked up over 250k miles blasting around europe in it and was still going strong before it was t-boned. Snif.
It’s all about character!

I think if all you have done is the supermarket runs then it needs to be kept till the spring, gets he rood down and maybe enjoy a few cruises to the country / coast and maybe you will see a little more enjoyment for the e89, definitely a nice place to sit and cruise
 
Different cars, different qualities. :thumbsup:
Wife is encouraging me to sell the Z3 due to parking limitations, but.....but....
I like both, for different reasons.

I would definitely be keeping the Z3, you see multiple E89 every day on the roads, when was the last time you spotted a Z3.

...based on the E30 ///M. I get that people don't like the handling, but as somebody thats owned two 2.8 Z3s plus a clutch of 'better handling' Z4 and Z4M cars, it's no horror story. With new bushes, sport springs and decent ARBs, its actually pretty good on the twisties.

Can’t remember the last time I spotted a Morris Marina.... doesn’t make me want to rush out and buy one :rofl:

Some nice low mileage non rusty Z3s coming through from Japan at the moment, but you're then into Z4 money... even E89 money. Wasn't that the E89 you bought from facebook as a possible short term investment?
