Not everyone's cup of tea but..

Evening

I'm sure this isn't most enthusiasts cup of tea as topic, however, I thought I'd see if anyone had done it. I'm nearly 5 months into ownership of my summer toy but only done 200 miles in it so far as it's been shipped around to bring right up to speed.

Its going in for a few more visits in the next few weeks to sort the noisy oil filter, some replacement rubbers, alcantara wheel, bootspoiler, paint correction, grill. So it will be early ready for hopefully a gorgeous fun sunny summer.

Its having a map as well on valentines day just as I thought with all the tlc and tune would be nice for it to make the most of the breathing from various other additions, but I can't help the temptation to turbo or supercharge it.

It's the 2.5 and it sounds absolutely amazing but I want some more power. The tune will maybe give it back to factory plus a few but it's just not quite enough.

Maybe I should have gone for the 3.0 however I didn't and I like to make things my own. Has anyone supercharged or turbod the 2.5. If so any recommendations on kits and tuners to carry out the work in the south West?

I’m not an E85 person but Patriot66 amongst others have done some lovely work on supercharged engines ..in those of patriot66 I believe a 2.5…

I know there were M and N series engines and I’m not sure on the suitability of each generation….

I did look at supercharging a N52 3 litre version…

FWIW I’d think a supercharging solution would be simpler and more reliable than trying an aftermarket turbo solution…

I know a few people have fitted superchargers to 3 litre and M cars but it might be possible to fit one to a 2.5i.

Maybe this thread will be helpful:- https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=123799&hilit=forced

Turbo you say? We'll need popcorn lads!

There may or may not be a thread about a Turbo far back in the mists of time in a land that's over the hill and far, far away.

Going to go supercharger. Decision made. Here she is. Back in garage on valentines then again following week for some body bits like spoiler but she's coming together. Switching the lights to get rid of the yellow brows and the yellow fogs

i love the way the Z is so pretty to look at. its like art, this particular filter, and colour is not everything, but you can look at it from different angles and have a completely different perception of it. a bit like staring at a lovely paining. its just a beautifully designed car! so so impressed with BMW on the looks basis. Curvs in all the right places, with a lovely noise to with it, the chaps at BMW that designed it obviously knew how to create beauty.

Sorry but don't see it on the E85/ 86. The front is not pretty IMO. Your picture looks good (with the aid of a filter) but the E89 is much more of a 'work of art' any day of the week.
Don't see the point in throwing thousands at a car worth a few thousand to supercharge it (at 15 plus years old), either TBH. Sell it and buy a 'ready made' turbo E89 it will be a lot cheaper. Maybe I'm missing the point! :D

I think you share a good point, I think as the e85/86 become 'modern classics' most buyers will look for unmodified cars, modified cars always seem to suffer in resale values. Definitely worth thinking about if you want more power. The other option is to get the Z4M.

Hey,where's the love gone on the Forum?

Every version of the z4 when they were launched had split opinions.....alot if great cars do
When the E85+86 came out,the Bangle style was loved by some, and not appreciated by others.
It's a lovely, timeless design.

The E89 was slated by many for it' being too big(compared to the e85) ,the 3rd Brake light and rear end were awkward and a bit American looking(+not in a good way).
But it's also a Very nice looking car, especially in Grey/Valencia Orange/Blue,and especially in 35i/is type spec.

The Front Grillles among other things, has split opinions with the G29.....
Just look at this Forum, among others.
Again,I think they're a very nice looking car.

And as time goes on,they get more appreciated.

Has happened with all 3 versions of the z4's.

Don't listen to Pondy, your cars lovely o.p

As for b21, He clearly isn't a Fan of the E85/86, as he's made clear,
And he doesn't like the G29 either.....
According to him the G29 isn't a Proper z4, just a cut and shut 3/4 Series vert and it's front end is ugly
(B21s words).

Pm Simon/Patriot 66 though,as he recently did his own supercharger kit on his 2.5.

I don't expect him to listen to me. It's my opinion, that's all. I would hope that a grown up would do what they thinks is best for them.
But I certainly wouldn't advise anyone to listen to you either, when you can't help but have a 'dig' at people who you have fallen out with at every opportunity! Seriously, let it go.

This is a car specific forum, not just a 'we have to love everything about Z4s, no matter what' forum (lol. And another lol) :)

Yes,it's a car forum, and no,we don't all have to love every z4,,be boring if we did all like the same things,
but no need to slate the guys car,for no reason.
It's a well turned out example of a z4.

My issues, lol.
What, because I disagreed with you slaggong the guys car off ,Pondrew??

I didn't slate HIS car. In fact I don't think I 'slated' anything, TBH.

Your 'issues' were well documented long before I was even here, lol. Lol!

It came across as that.

Re my issues being "well documented"....
I think that should read "certain Individuals opinions of me ,were well documented".

Anyway,I only offered a bit of support and positive comments on the guys car,and u want to have a pop at me now.
Whatever :tumbleweed:

Don't post slagging someone else's car off if u can't take a bit of criticism for doing so.
Constructive criticism can be beneficial, sometimes, but saying someone's cars ugly is just negative comments ,and puts people off posting anything about their cars

Anyway, sorry op for thread going a bit off kilter....
Was just showing some appreciation for your lovely z,as there was nothing but negative comments on the thread upto then

Cars looking good.

Well... that certainly stirred up a conversation.

As the title suggested, its very much preference, completely understand the points of not making financial sense, but for me personally I do things to my own taste and its a labour of love in order to enable the biggest grin for me when i go out at the weekend.

The beauty side of things, again, some like blondes some like brunettes, some like big noses some like big arses, the beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

So to conclude, although supercharging a 3k car after already spending nearly 3k on top to bring her back to life and considering another 3k to give her some more power in my eyes is worth doing as you hold on to things you love. Rather deep for a Monday morning given.. I think im right in saying at some point when she's all finished there will be SOMEONE out there that has the same taste and appreciates it from a fun point of view and not as an old diminishing asset that's lost value for money so they can't go and get a newer model.

:-P

Your car, your money, your choice

Is it dark blue or black?

As mentioned earlier if you’re looking for tips/hints/steers give Si (Patriot66) a shout. He’s done a cracking install on his, I saw it just after it was finished and it looks like it’s always been there, very tidy install. He’s very knowledgeable and has done a few tweaks from the stock set up iirc. I know he’s very happy with his and the power increases from the chat we had.

Love this photo and the car, the wheels really suit the car and you must be chuffed to bits having a little Bobby dazzler like that…

Get the car ceramic coated if you’re getting it machine corrected…. Just give you a little extra protection from scratching when you wash it.
