Not a Bloody Roadster!

I was simply pointing out that the term roadster doesn't strictly apply to cars with roll up windows and that I found it annoying when it was misused. Obviously not the sort of nicety that bothers most people.

MGA, TR-3, Austin Healey 100 = roadsters. TR-4, MGB, Austin Healey 300 Mk 3 = drop head coupes.

Wonder what the origin term is in German - whether this is an artifact of translation or a less that strict application of the terms we use. In any case, to those who have a background in vintage British autos (I assume there are some such here) the term is a tad grating when applied to modern cars with wind up windows. I am aware that the term is used loosely today.

BTW, I think that the 1996 Viper may have been the last car with side screens fitted.

PS - don't drink beer, only wine and single malts, if you are offering......

it's okay wspohn, we're just a sardonic bunch on this forum and maybe to quick too jump on people!
My grandad was a big fan of his Frogeye Sprite and used to refer to it as his 'little red roadster'.
Personally, living in Holland has endeared me to the term they use here: 'Cabriolet' for all soft-top/roadster/convertible cars.
As a french word I think it rolls off the tongue nicely. But that's just me!

IIRC, 'cabriolet' was a Porsche term as far back as the 356 era (I used to race against a lot of those) and continues today.

Wonder if you could rig a Z4 soft top to stop half way and call it a sedanca de ville....

BTW, I sure get tired of the Americans and their Zee this or Zee that (Z28, 240Z etc.) Nice to visit where they use an appropriate 'zed' (as we do in Canada).

Well, going back even further than that and actually to the previous century 'cabriolet' was a term originally used to describe a horse carriage!
In any case, I think it's more a case of tomato/tomatoe.

There is no such thing as a drophead coupe. That's an oxymoron. It would be like asking for your eggs to be cooked over easy sunny side up.
A coupe is a closed two door car with a permanently fixed roof with a shorter wheel base than a saloon and possibly just 2 searts A drophead is one type of car, a coupe is another.
