Northern Ireland recommendations

Hi I live in NI and am looking at a 2.5 z4SE 2004 but it needs the roof motor replaced. The vendor has offered me £450 off the price to fix this but what I would like to ask is there anyone on here from NI who has had this done locally that they could recommend and is £450 enough? (I dont think so myself) I have owned a Z3 in the past but never needed any work done on it other than normal servicing so I dont know where to go to other than dealers which would cost too much.

£450 including the part? snap their hands off if that's the case.
I got my local guy to do it for £550 including the motor but he said it was a total ballache, but hadn't done one before.

Bavarian will charge you around £700 iirc the motor is about £300 of that, the labour costs there are insane £75per hour, they quoted me 1300 to do brake pipes that are being fixed for 200 next week.
( i'm Belfast based, if you're looking to use a dealer, Derry direction try JKC bmw, or the country garage both seem to get better reviews than Bavarian these days)

Hi- I am originally from Belfast and my dad uses a wee garage on the Ormeau Road for his z3. He uses Bavarian for his main cars but says this place is great for the older z. I will ask him what it is called. It may be worth asking the selling garage to fix it themselves if they think it can be done for £450. Welcome to the forum- I'm sure you will be z'ding soon.

Thanks for the replies guys it looks like buying 2nd hand in NI is an expensive business I did a 1000 mile round trip when i bought my Z3 so wouldnt think twice about doing it again for the right car. I dont know whats best either buy a fully working car or buying a less expensive one and getting the work done myself. Atleast that way you know the works been done and its unlikely to fail again during your ownership as I would be looking after it correctly :D

I have to say Ive hated every minute today out driving here in the sun as every few miles someone passes you going the other way with their roof down :headbang:

Although I do like the look of the Z4 coupe

lol should've manually dropped it :D
I know the feeling though mines been sitting on the drive awaiting wedensday to get new rear brake pipes.

You guys missed a great day, roof down the whole time :D

Coast road was packed but the road from Carnlough to Ballymena was awesome.

Didn't see another Z4 the whole day, so get them sorted lads. :driving:

I also did a 1000 miles round trip to collect my Z4, ironically to where u live!! I drove from Norwich to Gatwick, flew to Belfast, checked/looked/test drove car, paid, drove to Dublin, got the ferry to Holyhead then drove all the way back to Norwich all in a day!!! loved every second ever since  :driving:
