NORTH'D CASTLES AND COAST 13th Sept PHOTOS

Do you know which roads from the south are blocked Paul?

If you travel up on the A1 North you should be ok. There are long 30 and 40 limit runs on the Western Bypass section (from the Angel of the North and alongside the Metrocentre where it is being widened) so do allow for this in your travel plans.

The Great North Run route starts at the Cowgate end of the Internal Motorway (A167M) through Newcastle and over the Tyne Bridge from there it forks East to the Coast (south of the River Tyne) so using the top end of the A19 (north of the A1231) should be avoided - take the A1231(west) to the A1 to get to Kingston Park if travelling North on the A19.

Let me know if you need further info ronk.

Please add me and Julie to the list Paul.
Think the plan is to drive down in the morning. :D :driving:

Hi Richard, certainly will - glad you and Julie can make it

Lots of cameras at the top of the A68 so take care . . . .

Steph and I have been on a further recce today - 6 hours checking out some timings and possible points of interest. Primarily though we've been timing different routes as we want to include a visit to Holy Island . . . . .looking possible with some major revamping of the early route which has called for a check on other suitable coffee and toilet stops which can accommodate and manage a possible 20+ Zeds. . . not always easy to find

Nearly there - we have a few options and some decisions to make. :? :D

The heather was in glorious colour today (hope it lasts a fortnight) and of course we've checked the safe causeway crossing times but today was a great day to see Holy Island nicely isolated.

We will be sending out final details to everyone including our mobile telephone number in about a week - any issues or problems before that please send a pm.

Stick myself and Nicki down for this as well and we can tag along at the back. :driving:
Will be an early start for us , probably leave before 7am to head down. :o
Anybody meeting up this end to travel down together?

I would love to make this Paul but don't think I will due to work. I know I am lucky where I live but having holidayed in the North East it is a glorious place with some great roads. Only driven in family buses unfortunately! :(

I am still hoping to be able to arrange a last minute entry but if not have a great hoon. Looks like it will be amazing and I was surprised at the quality of road to Holy Island given that it is submerged so often. The bird of prey place just before Holy Island has a good sized car park and lovely cafe as well. Enjoy

Happy to meet up if you're route brings you over our direction, planning to go either A68 or A1. :)

Will do Stuart - be good to see you and Nicki there. This is a 'tour' rather than a hoon so no need to hang about at the back but hopefully the traffic gods will shine on us and we may be able to press on a bit during parts of the run - we'll need to if we include a visit to Holy Island. Come on one of our other runs/hoons for a spirited drive on some superb roads - we've got Hartside coming up at the beginning of October - see the post.

Hi Gary, this is more of a 'tour' rather than a hoon, hope you can get along but if not come on one of our other runs/hoons. We are driving the wonderful Hartside pass (both ways) and parts of the North Pennines at the beginning of October which is a hoon (spirited run on a fabulous road) - see the post in Events/Runs/Meets section. I'll add you to the list as a possible but only expect you if you send me a text or ring - I'll send you the details by pm just in case. The photos above of the Island were taken from Beads Barn the café and car park you mention - we'll take a tour around that for the views . . . .

Not really thought about which way to go yet.
Obviously the M74 and A69 is more direct for us but could head to Edinburgh first if there is a few meeting there.

We would be interested :)[/quote]

That's great :driving:
Reckon we would need to be leaving Edinburgh around 7.30am, how does the car park at Hermiston Gait sound as a meeting point. :driving: :)

That's the opposite side of the city for me, what about the travel lodge off the city bypass at Dreghorn junction, that way we are ideally situated for either the A68 or A1 :driving:

7.30 start sounds about right to me :)

Hi Paul
I,ve had the Z for 2 years now, so it's about time I went on a Fun Run.
Please add Nick and Tracey to the list, and we're looking forward to meeting you on the 13th.

Nick

That's the spirit Nick, will be great to meet you and Tracey. There'll be plenty of others to meet and this is more of a tour (with some places where we'll press on) so a good way to start

I'll add you to the list
