North Wales run, 12th April.

Be careful out there this weekend as the police will be outi in force as last weekend a couple died in an accident between a motorbike and a car in the Betws y Coed area.

Just got home (the benefit of being 25 miles away from our starting point) after a wet & windy but highly enjoyable day out in North Wales.

Thanks go to John (sammyz) for organising this again, and having to change the route on the hop after deciding some of the wilder/twistier/narrower routes may have had some trouble with flooding/twigs/branches due to the weather.

Paul took plenty of pictures so I'm sure they'll be uploaded in good time.

Looking forward to the National now (assuming my brakes/suspension are done in time).

Home now - after a gentle reminder from the Porsche that a big boot and wet roads and changes of camber aren't a great mix - nothing that an armful of oppo didn't sort out thankfully!

Good to meet you all again, and thanks all for a great catchup and some nice roads - shame the weather was a bit welsh, but not much we could do about that.

No photos worthwhile posting as tapatalk functionality is now missing.

585.5 miles and 29.4 mpg

Our first hoon in Wales and many thanks to John (Sammyz) for sorting the excellent route. The meal at the Boathouse was superb and a great location the night before.

It was lovely to see everyone at Starbucks and get a chance to catch up. 3 ///Ms , a Cayman S, SK93 and us in our 3 litres - a brilliant combination :D

Roof down and although cold, the first section, The Nant-Y Garth pass, was superb and quite an introduction to what Wales had to offer - that put a big grin on my face. Can quite understand why that's one of your favourite routes John

The forecast rain and high winds made conditions interesting but dodging debris  :o and the odd areas of standing water all added to the challenge. We gave the Evo Triangle a good going over, not once but twice and a bit. . . .Ian sorted a debris created fault on his Zed :o and a lunch break didn't bring about the hoped for improvement in the weather. But no problem, 'Welcome to Wales' was the resigned shout as we returned for more terrific roads and one or two breaks in the stormy conditions. The Horseshoe Pass another highlight and many of the connecting roads and (where seen, views) were stunning.

Well worth getting down to meet up and once again - much appreciation to John for the opportunity. (My wheel arches and undersides of the Zed have had a thorough clean now as well - quite a benefit  )

Lots of memories then but the bonus, as we joined up for the route back to the M56, had to be Guiseley, getting it 90 degrees to the Armco . . . .a good save Tony - never seen a car returned to the straight and narrow from such an angle! Unfortunately the dash cam had been put away

Will post up some photos soon.

:driving:

Great to see you all especially Craig Paul and Steph who came a long way for the drive. So Tony was showing off in his Porsche eh? Sideways on the motorway :driving:
Pity the weather was so poor but it made some of the roads interesting. Hope to see you all again soon.

I thought we were going for a full on pirouette :o
Weird that a car that feels so planted normally was all over the place when we weren't going that fast. All credit to the driver though that was an impressive save ( I just braced myself and kept quiet :? )

Thanks to John for organising another fabulous tour of Wales. Shame we didn't see as much scenery as usual, but we were overdue a day of poorer weather and we still had some great driving

Seemed like the trees were out to get Ian, at least the falling branch missed you - these roadsters have hidden dangers :poke:

Great to catch up with everybody again - let's do it all again soon :driving:

Sounds like a great time was had by all despite the weather.
Props to Craig, Paul and Steph.............some serious miles there guys when we have southerners moaning that it's too far to the National. :)
Looking forward to seeing you all in July.

Hadn't reached the motorway, was just off the roundabout far side of the garage - too keen to get home.

Probably wasn't 90 degrees, but once the nerves had settled I could feel my arms hurting where I'd pulled hard to get it facing forwards again.

Anyway 'twas all good.

As my wife would say Ruth, its 1 of those moments when, if your hubby catches it then "great save", but if that doesn't happen then its "you were going too fast for the conditions, lol"
Nice one Tony

Thanks again to John for organising a Wales meet once more...its been too long since the last 1.
It was great to see everyone, as always, and also an unexpected & pleasant surprise to see we had Ian/sk93 and Tony/mmm-five both make it along as well.
The big meets are great, but its also good to get out in smaller numbers now and again.
The weather started off okay, but sadly got wet and very windy.......despite this had a great drive and now have a car full of tree debris (and a scuffed front bumper/cosmetic only thankfully/due to my Sisters neighbours' rocks!!)

Was also great to catch up with John and then Paul & Steph on the Saturday night as well, always good to chat mate, and your RX8 is a cracker...for the money its a performance bargain, and in such good condition as well. (well jel, as they say in Essex, haha)

Here's to the next one and catching up with you all again :driving:

Yes, 695 miles all in for me, with my car sat on cruise most of the way and not too much traffic down or back up, then spending most of the time revving nicely in mainly 3rd gear , it managed 26.1mpg. Not bad for a 3.2 M R :D

Look forward to seeing u at the National also Jim....and hopefully see some of you sooner than that :driving:

A little disappointed in the photos I'm afraid - they don't do enough to conjure up the experience of the day - video from the dash cam is much better.

Anyway worth posting so here goes. . . .

Some good pics Paul and great roads, looks like you all had a great day despite the weather

Thanks Nick but as always the photos don't really evoke the involvement and challenge of the driving. Some terrific sections, with the weather an added element which isn't properly shown - bit busy and focussed at these times so the photos didn't get taken! :D Great day of driving

:driving:

You've got to expect that type of weather in Wales, the Lakes the 'Ring.

It can be 25C and cloudless when you start, and then you'll hit a fog bank, icy patch or it will bucket down. All part of the fun (especially for those of us who don't have garage queens)

Well put Tony....although we all look after our cars, its good that we are not afraid to use them in this kind of weather...had a blast all the same/despite the rain and wind.
Roll on the next one :D :driving:

Well I live in North Wales, was away working when this meet happened, when is the next one planned ?? I'll have to keep a eye out, some great road up over Snowdonia then down into Anglesey aswell :driving:

I was out on Sunday as the weather had unexpectedly brightened up after a wet Saturday.

What was intended to be a quick scoot to Conway for some tunnel runs turned into a 200 mile round trip via Llanberis, Betws-y-coed, etc.

My problem is that I'm away in London all week and Sat/Sun are the only days I get any free time, so a day of driving has to be worthwhile, otherwise I'll go on the lash on Saturday and not get up until lunchtime on Sunday. That's really a bit late to head off for a 4-5 hour hoon.

I tend to do things on the spur of the moment, and will take my time to commit to a firm event/date, but once I commit I won't cancel - even if something 'better' comes up (like my mate announcing his surprise wedding about a month before last year's National Meet) or 'tragedy' strikes (like when I did a Wales run in a lardy e92 M3 when my Z4 had a dispute with a lorry).
