North East Meet - **Confirmed 10th October**

Put me down for this too - dates are a bit ropey at this time of year as it's in our peak period at work and I have to be a bit flexible, but definitely interested in seeing a bit more of the North East

I am up for an october run out but could do with knowing which weekend it will be. Scarborough - Whitby coast road is good fun.

Put me down for this, i will check the dates once i'm back at work on Monday and make sure i've nothing work wise coming up which will get in the way.Was wondering while i was away when the next N/E meet was coming i need wonder no more

i'm out of the country between between the 16th and the 23rd,any confirmed date for this yet?

Checked with work today and the 24th is the only date that is not good for me i'll be heading to Ireland on that date. The North York Moors sound good especially if it takes in the Hole of Horcum stunning scenery and there's a descent sized car park but also some nice roads,so hope this comes off as i could do with a good blast in the Zed :driving:

Hey Guys,

Havent been on much lately, been manik at work and home.

i know i suggested the meet but with things so busy i doubt ill have time to organise it etc, i dont know if i will be able to attend but hopefully i could make it.

any volunteers to take over whatever planning needs done?

sorry i havent got the time to contribute :(

can't do the 2nd/3rd, 9th/10th or the 30th/31st :)

I live near Helmsley. If you want a good route I'm happy to contribute. :D

z4um, a route would be great if you know one or two?

Have suggested a route on Google Maps. Try cutting and pasting this:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=helmsley&daddr=Hutton-le-Hole,+York,+United+Kingdom+to:Sandsend,+Whitby,+United+Kingdom+to:Scarborough+North+Bay,+Scarborough,+United+Kingdom+to:Hackness,+Scarborough,+United+Kingdom+to:Low+Dalby,+PICKERING,+North+Yorkshire+YO18+7LT,+United+Kingdom+(Dalby+Forest+Visitors+Centre)+to:helmsley&geocode=Fay7OwMddcjv_yk7atKZa8R-SDHKt8KDSHa1ug%3BFY-TPAMdFPvx_ykN1bNxC9l-SDEPCcu2BvhTdQ%3BFRqgPwMdArz1_yljFRMHlxl_SDEBp9_vn_kMJg%3BFfp5PAMdbMT5_ylN5x1HhEd_SDEgjab0n_kMHQ%3BFQyUPAMdBSr4_ynJkEsreDl_SDE3ojkaBHlczg%3BFScCPAMdBmb1_yF7wsIWu9bfTA%3BFay7OwMddcjv_yk7atKZa8R-SDHKt8KDSHa1ug&hl=en&mra=ls&sll=54.308111,-0.741577&sspn=0.196298,0.565109&ie=UTF8&z=10&dirflg=d

In case it doesn't work, the route is:
Start Helmsley market square (Meet Porters coffee shop or Nice Things)
A171 turning off after Kirbymoorside for Hutton Le Hole.
Over moors through Blakey ridge, Castleton and Danby to A171
B1266 then A174 into Sandsend.
South A171/A165 to Scarborough. Park up north bay (Fish and chips at The Oasis)
West to Hackness through the Forge valley
Through Dalby Forest & back to Helmsley.
Total 93 miles. Great scenery. Fast, quiet roads. Decent eateries.

Z4um, don't know the area, but looks like a great excuse to get some Yorkshire sea air - are you volunteering to lead? What dates would you suggest (Say 10th or 17th please!) and is it worth scheduling in a couple of stops for chats / pictures / waiting for stragglers?

Happy to help spamming local Z owners to swell numbers :)

actually... the 10th would work for me...
Got a shindig/hottenanny on the 9th, so car wouldn't be as shiny as everyone has grown accustomed to, but I'm sure you'll all survive :)

Who's taking over the official organising?

I'm easy on the dates. We just need a decent forecast! I know the route so am happy to be somewhere near the front. I tend to take things relatively easy, but my memories from bike trips years ago means that those at the back get to drive much faster if they want to keep up. Stops are a good idea for photos/tea etc. Suggest Helmsley (alternative meeting point Castle Howard - more parking), Sandsend, Scarborough North Bay, Danby visitor centre.
Spamming sounds good.

A learned friend says

"Looks a good interesting route but it might be a little short.

How about adding the B1257 from Helmsley (no idea what it's like but looks good on the atlas!) then the A173 to Guiseborough then reverse your route to Castleton and over the moors to Hutton Le Hole.

Then turn around and do the 'other' moors road that passes through Egton. Again, I've not been on that road(I don't think so anyway!) then continue your route as planned. Would add an hour or so I'm guessing."

What do you think? I'm bringing a passenger who can map read, so could 'mop up' at the back - have attended a few of these but never led one, but could be persuaded if numbers don't get too large.

Should we settle on the 10th? It's only a couple of weeks away, so would need to get confirmed numbers asap.

Tweed Siftah and SammyZ have also been on a few, so might be nudged towards taking the lead.

The b1257 from helmsley is a fantastic road, known as the helmsley tt, a favorite road for bikers in the north east. no need to go as far as guisborough though turn off at clay bank and head for ingleby greenhow, commondale then to castleton :driving: the 10th is good for me 8)
