I was watching when this photo was taken.......but I'd just cycled up and wasn't going to come over and introduce myself as I was a tad out of breath and sweating a bit!!!

Did get to 45mph on the way down though :D before we turned off for Leadgate and the beast of a climb at Garrigill

Maybe next time !!

Wow - we were talking in the café about how insane it must be to head up (and down) Hartside on a cycle!

All respect for that effort.

You going to join us on one of the North East runs?

Were repeating the run for those that couldn't make the first date and for those that want to do the run again this Sunday.

:driving:

I'll defo be up for joining in for one of these!

Can't do next weekend though, back in the lakes cycling. Kirkstone pass to climb :(

(Hartside isn't that bad really. It's quite a steady climb. The hill out of Garrigill is the worst!!)

For a canny road to blast down get to Allenheads then head to Rookhope. 5 miles downhill, very much like hartside but without the traffic. :D

I'll give you all a wave if you get to the lakes next weekend !!

We have recce'd and know that road - you're right it's very enjoyable and fairly quiet but we really like the challenge of the two sections either side of Hartside. (We also hit an awful pot hole the last time we drove it West - we went back to take a look and it was very inconspicuous but had quite a drop on it!)

Both routes East out of Alston are enjoyable - Barnard Castle to Alston has some excellent sight lines and open roads (Grumpybri said this was one of his favourite roads). We may take this route and your suggestion in a future run.
