 , Pesky cyclists spoiling our fun :x

Thanks to everyone who came, and made the day what it was.

Apologies from myself for some of the "lost" bits. Will have pacenotes next time. But as you can appreciate, keeping 17 cars together can be a challenge at the best of times.

Was good to meet the Z4 owners, and if none of you were too put off, I would suggest that we do another joint meet in the future.

I'll upload my pics tomorrow

Yep, really enjoyed the day - many thanks to Robb and Lexx for organising it all and doing their best to keep those of us that got lost in check.

It was good to meet you all and have a go in Spud's car. Here are some random photos :)

Couldn't resist a sneaky shot of this stunning Vauxhall

Cheers all for another good day... was a bit gutted that Siftah & I got caught at the lights in Barnard Castle and lost, so missed the first half of the day's roads (including buttertubs :(). But we made our own fun, stumbling across a corker of a road between Kirkby Stephen and Hawes, the cyclists on that stretch helped me test my red stuffs quite well, with their sudden and seemingly completely random weaving :violent1:

So, would love to do another day, if only so I can get to do Buttertubs! Can I suggest a rear marker that knows the route next time? ;) (come to that, a leader that knows it would be a plus :poke:)

But wow what a white knuckle ride that was following a MR,MC and me in my 2.2 to catch up with main group in Hawes.

Heh heh - glad I'm not the only one thinking that. It took me about five minutes after parking up in Hawes to prise my fingers from the steering wheel. :o

Probably wouldn't have been quite as white-knuckle if it hadn't been for the fact we were trying to catch up and had all those cyclists on the road. There were times when it felt a bit like someone had decided it would be a jolly wheeze to combine a stage of the Manx Rally with a stage of the Tour de France.

This was the first time I'd taken part in an event like this in any car. Wasn't too sure what to expect, although I was pretty sure it wasn't going to be the sort of thing where everyone gathered together at the end to award a prize to the person with the best MPG. Most of those Nissan boys, Robb and Guiseley must have been making some very good progress at times. :)

Indeed!

I remember it clearly*, we were sat at the side of the road, realising we probably should have gone left instead of right.

Suddenly, Tweed shouts "Hawes!"

"No Nick, we've not got time for that we need to catch the others up. Oh, you mean the place, right!"

So anyway we caught every-one up again at Hawes :)

Great day out! Lovely roads (even the ones that weren't on the official route) and again great to meet some new faces. Big thanks to the 350 boys for organising the route. I think Radios and more people with the route map next time as it was a shame not to be able to all keep together.

Normally I would have pace notes/map for everyone. But with only getting back from work on the Wed ngiht (I work on a ship), I didnt get chance to do the usual prep work and had to wing it.
Already looking into getting some radios for the next 350z meet.

So, my pics.

Definitely! I have one of the PMR 466 radios which seem like a good bet as;
a) You can get them dirt cheap off eBay/Maplin/CostCo
b) They're a common standard so they'll be interoperable if lots of people by different makes/models.
c) You can buy them in singles, if you're a sad billy-no-mates.

:)

Heading up to tan hill through the cyclists, about half way rob and I passed some guy going at a fair pace up a really steep bit and weaving all over the shop, immediately after that we were up the back of the micra and greenish kia(?) who're trying to get past another slower group of riders, the first guy on the bike moves to pass us on the left and rob pulls over to block him, goes to pass on the right and rob does the same again, repeats about 3 times and robs gradually slowing down the whole time. Eventually he basically stalls on the hill and puts his feet down and we drive off while this furious, neon purple lycra clad paedophile shakes his fists in the air and rants at us. First time in ages i've actually cried from laughing so hard.

Ps, followed an ariel atom down a really wet back road on the way home too, every puddle they hit sent a massive bow wave over the the driver and passenger, almost as funny.

All, Will post piccies later but thought you'd be interested in this link http://www.etapedudales.co.uk/instructions.htm - there were 900 of the f*****s (Sorry for the language in case Kate is reading :) but you heard worse on the day  ) - I'll scan through their forum to see if they thought the same as us!
Good seing you all, and SammyZ promosed to try to include the Buttertubs in his national meet on the Sunday, so you can try it then if you missed out this time - it was epic the last time I did it (too worried about random cyclists and wheels rubbing this time)
Cheers

A quote from their site - The hardest Yorkshire Dale climbs in one day. Starting/finishing at Wharfedale rugby club in Grassington. The new route will take in Tan Hill (the highest pub in the uk). All profits to the Dave Rayner fund and in memory of Stuart Holdsworth who was tragically killed in 2008 whilst out cycling near his home town of Settle. - Nuff respect for their efforts, and hope no one was injured from this time - but it wouldn't surprise me if someone collided with something at some stage.

I thought we were driving with due care and attention to the cyclists! Well I don't think we knocked any off their bikes :) it was the bikers who were annoying me dawdling along in the middle of the road

Hello, Nice to meet you all, had a great day, here are some piccies :D Spud - No need to check spelling, not at schoool now

Yep, those bikers were bl00dy annoying. Because of the number of them, the type of road and the awkward speed they were doing I thought it would have been a really iffy overtake. But I was sorely temped.

Best photo from the day!

I'd just like to confirm what SammyZ said, despite our jestful comments we didn't knock a *single* biker off their bikes.

When I washed the car after getting home the biker *and* his bike were still definitely attached to the bumper, they were clearly at no point separated from each other :poke:
