North East and Scotland Borders Run

Testing the water with this one as a suggestion - a meet in the borders for the Scottish & Newcastle (or thereabouts) people. No idea when it would fit in with other meets that are planned, hadn't thought that far in advance - just seeing if there'd be interest?

Scottish lot can travel down by a variety of routes, an example being straight down the A68, maybe more interesting is to take to some of the route we took around the Biggar trip. I was going to post something more interesting then have decided not to put it on a public forum. Probably better to keep our routes to a PM.

English zed's may well know their own route, my initial suggestion is straight up the A68 and meet at the big Carter Bar laybys on the border. There's probably better out there though.

All depends on the date, I have very limited time in the UK but if the time is right.

Just looking at the list of Scottish ones then June/July when there's other stuff going on that I'm hoping to be away for,

Feb - Tayside
Mar - Moffat
May - Applecross
June - Le Mans
July - Silverstone ZedFest and National

makes it look like towards the end of the year would be a good time for it. Time it for after the tourists during the peak holiday season, but before the weather becomes crap again.

Great idea

(I'd also been thinking previously this would be a great idea)

Could have 2 start locations - one north of the border, one in the south - and arrange to meet in a central location for lunch and/or a short drive together before going our own ways. Or are you thinking an overnighter?

I guess it depends how much driving as a combined group is done. My first reaction is only a one day thing, although it is potentially a 2hour drive to a meet point for both ends. 4 hours driving before doing any driving or lunch as a group.

So I guess a couple of questions for those interested :-
One day or two preferred?
Is there anywhere people think is good for either a shortish but interesting drive and somewhere for lunch. Carter Bar was my suggestion purely because it was on the border and I knew there were two big laybys there. Potentially it could be a good photo-stop on a route that we do as a big group.

I'll also start the bidding with a potential date in September - any further bids on that?

I'm keen. Need to know dates well in advance. If a good bit driving to be done then I'd could do an overnighter. Although not interested in camping.

I'm happy to orchestrate the Scottish side, if there's a volunteer to arrange the English meet point and route?

I'm just google mapping at the moment until Top Gear comes on to look for a route we could do as a group, if there's an easy 1 day option I'm likely to go for that.

Mmmmmmmmm 2 hrs to Stirling for a start point or 2 hrs to the NE mmmmmmmm decisions decisions....
Could drive there with one lot and home with the others or just be anti social and go my own way. :poke: :driving:

Decision time, I'm busy lots in August so Sunday 2nd September. If it needs to be an overnighter, we'll do Sat 1st/Sun 2nd.

Sorry not responded sooner re this one cj-eds - it's a fine idea for a North - South get together - sadly I'll need to miss this one if it's 2nd Sep - we'll be off on holiday. Hope it's a good un . . .
