We are going to visit friends in the mid Pyranees area of France at the end of March this year - we are travelling the Portmouth / Caen route and it seems like a good idea to see the Normandy Beaches area that my father visited in '44

Has anybody got any recommendations please?

Ron, there is so much to see there, it's hard to say where's best. The grave yards are a must and there are plenty of museums too, not sure when these are open in the year though. You really need a good day in the area though IMHO :thumbsup:

Indeed you can easily spend a few days in the area at the countless WW2 sites
Utah beach is worth the drive north from Caen & if not visited before go in the museum then from there its not far from St Mere Eglise where the US parachutist was stranded on the church tower surrounded by german troops https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sainte-M%C3%A8re-%C3%89glise
Pegasus bridge is only 10 mins from Caen ferryport at Benouville so worth a quick visit
All depends what particularly interests you but I found a place last autumn i never knew existed near St Lo where many german dead are buried , quite easy to forget the enemy lives lost with the youngest chap there being just 15yrs old :cry: http://www.dday.center/cemetery_de_marigny.html
