Nordschleife 2012 Accidents

Always horrible seeing the twisted metal. But ye I love the way these people see the, going off and still fly round! Like that golf toward the end they are just wandering around the run off... great idea.

Thought there were rules?

Glad to see the Z4 didn't crash, although I've always wanted to go I've got to say this has kinda put me off!

Overtaking slower cars on the outside of a bend on a tourist day is always a recipe for disaster.

Golden rule. Don't track what you don't want to stack.

Did I see a white Scirocco crash at that same spot twice?

i used to visit the Ring every summer for about 4 years upto 2000.

i was knocked off a one moth old 996 Ducati by an idiot who tried to undertake me and took out my front wheel.
when the ring is good, its realy good.... when its a bad, you can count yourself lucky if you get to go home.

i spent the best part of 8 weeks in hospital with a broken pelvis etc after trying to pull armco out of the ground with my body :)

my ducati was pulled out of the forest at Galgenkopf after taking a fence out and getting 30mtrs into the woods...
cost me a fortune in ambulance/ helicopter/ ring closed/ recovery charges. i also went to court as the guy ran away from the scene of the accident. i got my cost coverd and he recived some points!

ive been back since and rode my old 999 around, so life goes on. just ensure if you go, that you have travel insurance and legal cover, oh and have fun :driving:

I can't believe how idiotic some people are when it comes to circuit driving. They turn up, show no respect for what is a dangerous track, the red mist comes down and they think they can drive it flat out without learning it first! :!:

mad learn the track and slowly build the speed up :driving: it is really hard to do when you do get on the track but if you do the car stays inn one piece

After watching those offs I found an amazing video of Michael Bader in a Z4 V8 Coupe, battling with a Porsche on the Nordschleife. One of the best on-board videos I've ever seen, albeit a little long at over an hour!

makes me dizzy watching it

Never let other peoples stupidity put you off trying something. You just have know you're and your cars limitations. It's clear in that touristfharten video that most of those folks were trying to set a lap record and over driving their family car 80,000 mile motorway tires. When I went to the Nurburgring. I went in with the mind of just having a bit of fun without the risk of a rozzer giving me the business. If you go and try to show how big your bollocks are. That's what makes it dangerous and shows what an idiot one is.

I'm at about lap 2 on that race video. That Zed sure can get into and through the corners great. But then falls on it's underpowered face after the track opens up.

that is very true about knowing your limits, but if you know the ring, you will also know the influence of those around you is huge. its very easy to get caught up in someone elses accident.

Guys comment on the last crash sums it up for me......."f@#k". Am sure its a great experience, but whilst I tend to drive to my (very inadequate) capabilities on a track, the same can't be said for others. That's what discourages me from ever doing a ring trip :)

Paza has the right idea on the chaps tour thread. Use a 'ring hire car and take it easy and within your limits. Maybe book an instructor for the whole "bucket list item checked" experience.

I'd love to do this, not sure if it will happen though
