I suppose the chap is just putting his hand in his pocket to pay for the repair?
Does his Merc need any paintwork or was he lucky?

Would make more sense. He'd lose more than that in insurance premiums by the time he's built it up again, and he won't be plagued by no win no fee phone calls for the next ten years!!

Either way tho., it was an expensive mistake for the fella.
I bet he’s ultra cautious now.

He is paying, but sadly as soon as money was mentioned he wasn't happy. He wanted to go through insurance initilly but I told him I'd rather pay for the repair myself if he wanted to do that. After a few grumbles he took my address and popped a cheque in the post.

Wife reversed her XC60 with parking sensors, rear camera & dumbo wing mirrors into my Merc I’d only had for 4 weeks... denied everything at first when car sent me a message it’d been hit.

Oh for plastic low impact bumpers & an orbital polisher...

You were only trying to save the old boy money and the stigma of a claim at renewal time!

Cheers  That worked fine.

The saga continues. The guy pulled the cheque before I cashed it and went to his insurance.

He's not made any mention of my car at all so I'm not going to give any details and keep my insurance out of it. The premium hikes will outweigh the cost of the repair over the years it will appear on my insurance history

Won't his insurance query what he hit?
Seems wrong he's not contributing to your repairs though, or have I got it wrong

The fella sounds like a penny wise pound foolish chump!
You have his insurance details? He is mandated to do that after a bump, so contact them directly.
He has previously admitted full liability, his cheque is evidence enough

 you sound like a pushover. Go to the police if he won't Co-operate.

This is why I'd just go through insurance. It won't actually cost you that much extra in increased premiums. My wife has a stolen vehicle claim (£12.5k) and a non fault accident (£10k) declared on her policy and it costs us about £70 more than it would without them.

But hey. Its your cash and if you want to shell out a grand or whatever it was, that's your prerogative.

No no, he's cooperating, he's just chosen to go through insurance instead.

I've just informed my insurer for information to be done with it. They even tell me they can handle it without a claim on my history which is news to me

That’s fine - but at renewal they ask “ have you been involved in any claims even if no fault “

Oh OK, apologies, that serves me right for reading quickly

What your insurance company mean, is that the 3rd parties insurance company will handle the claim so that your insurance company don't need to pay out a penny, so there's no marker on you.

But as said above, you will still need to inform any insurance company, come renewal time, of any accidents even if they weren't your fault. This is the wording they use to hike premiums. It's a complete joke, especially in your case where your car was stationary and unoccupied.

I know to my cost that some insurance companies hike the price after a no claim no blame accident. I argued the toss but it was a right old chew for the five years or so to explain the circumstances of the minor bump!

Well, Porsche have hooked me up with this BEAST for 3 weeks...

It's in to have a couple of other bits checked over as well. The body shop is also 60 miles away
