Hi all
As my z4 is a daily in this cold weather should I leave the car warm up a bit before driving off or does it make no difference. Sorry for the stupid question.

Nothing wrong with leaving it to warm up, in fact it's a good idea.
That being said you can drive straight off, just try not to drive it like you stole it until it's up to temp!

Having personally heard how loud your Zed is LittleZ4 I’m sure your neighbours would lynch you if you let yours warm up before driving off

Ooah ... that does so much remind me f this advert from the 90's

I used to travel 70 miles each way to work and I used to leave home between 6:00 and 6:30am so still dark and very often frozen. I used to start my car at the time - a MK1 Focus RS and while I had a coffee let it idle to temp so oil was warm; windows all defrosted (never; ever; used de icer on them) and there was a chance the gear knob (solid lump of metal) could be held without gloves! A warm car made clearing the snow easier as well.

Did it do the car any damage? - sold it with 198K on the clock; never had any engine work done and still on the factory clutch and exhaust so I'd say no.

I literally start it up and disappear........slowly!! :D anything much over idle and I become the neighbours alarm clock.

I don't leave mine to warm up - just drive off and keep the revs under about 3-4k until it's warm.

RE waking up the neighbours - When the other half had a 996 (with a Quiksilver exhaust  ) and were both going to work in the morning (my Zed at the time had a DLV exhaust) the cars made a small amount of noise as they do but we thought nothing of it.

We only found out that we'd been waking our neighbour up each morning when he complained he'd missed a doctor's appointment when we'd had the day off!

May depend on other circumstances, such as where you park it. I some times leave my daily driver to warm up for mins before driving it, on cold frosty mornings. It's worth noubt though. Bare in mind your insurance won't want to know if some erk drives it away, with your keys in it.

I’ve heard it’s not good to leave it to warm up ‘slowly’. I’ve heard that the car should be driven, obviously keeping the revs down... this circulates fluid, heat as it’s supposed to be.
