Non-starter

Hi
I used my Zed on Wednesday, 40 miles each way.
I went to start it tonight and wouldn't start. I turn the key to the first click and all the dash lights come on, fan, and all the other associated noises that usually kick in. I turned the key to the start position and nothing, not even the starter relay clicking. There is a very odd sound that comes out of the dash when the key is turned on, a faint double beep which has never been there before. All fuse are ok and the battery has plenty of juice; ideas please

Have you tried a set of Jump leads on it ?

If that doesnt work, I'd lightly tap the starter motor with a hammer and see if that gets it turning over.

Similar thing happened to me recently. Was the ignition switch. Common on z4's apparently so might be same thing for you. I'll see if I can find the part number/info. It's a 10 minute DIY job to change.

If it was the ignition switch, the roof wouldn't work (unless its only key position 3 not making contact)
It sounds to me more like the beginning of a dodgy starter motor.

They can fail at different positions. Mine failed intermittently on position 2, so would turn over but not start.

Assuming mine failed position 3, as everything worked (including roof) but the car wouldn't start (no starter motor, not noise, nothing). I've got a video of it happening somewhere I can post.

Replacing the switch cured it.

You can get one for around a tenner on eBay, and only a ten minute job to change so a logical starting point.

Mine was from quarry motors via eBay.

Just changed the switch and the same problem. Definitely making a "bing bong" sound it didn't used to. Any further ideas before I get it towed in?
Incidentally, less than 10 minutes to change it indeed
