Non runner

Hi Folks, just sold my 2.5 and now have the chance of a 3.0 version - A '03 plate.

Problem is, it has some engine issues and I wonder if anyone has had similar faults.....

1. Serious misfire even on idle
2. cuts out when you give it any gas
3. smoke coming from drivers side rear of engine
4. Guys says it was lacking power before he parked it up.

It has had a DISA valve replaced before it was laid up too.

Any advice welcome, or do I walk away? He wants £2250

I wouldn't touch that with a barge pole unless you know what you are doing, and I guess you don't as you are asking the question.

I'd be tempted to first get an obd diagnosis to see what codes exist.
Misfire could be as simple as dodgy disa, maf, coil, injector or sparkplug.
Smoke from engine will be leaking cam cover gasket.
Cutting out on acceleration will be a fuelling issue. Prob shitty fuel pump or bad feed from the tank.

If its otherwise in good nick and has a good spec its worth taking a punt imo.

I bought mt zed with issues. Runs fine after a bit of fettling by my own fair but inexperienced hand.

That doesn’t sound cheap enough for a potential money peit. I’d get a full inspection by a mechanic or walk away.

just run, many more out there, unless you are really good with the spanners, and I am guessing you aren't.

take your £2250 and the grand you'll need for that fixer-up-er and source yourself one of the numerous sweet running early high-milers out there

Unless you have the knowledge to sort any issues your self, then that sounds like a massive unessessary risk. If it was me I would walk and find another.

I can't believe the amount of conservatism and overcautiousness from u lot.
I'd be using all the readymade leverage to haggle down the asking price as low as possible and relish the prospect of getting it up and running under your own initiative!

It's definitely a project car and as long as there aren't any chronic mechenical issues and the op is so inclined it will be an enjoyable adventure getting it fettled to good running condition again.

Come on you naysayers.... Project some optimistic encouragement fgs!
