Non Runflats - Insurance Premium ?

I am looking to buy a secondhand Z4 3.0 but notice that many secondhand Z4's have non run flat tyres.

From online insurance quotes I have received many official factory fit options e.g. 108 alloys or official spoliers/bodykits seem to make a significant difference to the quote.

Does anyone know if the fitting of "non standard" non runflat tyres affects the insurance premium ?

The easiest (but most expensive) place to buy a car with runflats fitted seems to be a BMW dealer.

I have non run flats ( :thumbsup: ), am with Privilege and it didn't make any difference - they noted it as a downgrade on the policy and away we went! Other insurers may take a different line, but they may not be that great to start with! There's an outfit on here (can't remember the name) but there is a forum discount and they don't worry too much about mods... apparently.

Good look with your search... have you got your eye on anything special?
 
Hi and Welcome, I to have non runflats, but you do need to check with your insurance company. I am also with "Chris Knott" which is the forums insurance company who as stated are happy with mods and prices are competitive as long as you dont live in one of their few dodgy postcode areas.

The stealers will only sell with RFTs fitted since thats what they factory spec, except for the M.

Insurance ought to be the same or less, because non-RFTs are cheaper to replace and there is no evidence that they detract from safety or performance in any way.

If you are looking at OEM supplied 'go faster' bits, most insurers are ok with that - its when the Barry Boy in you takes over that they get worried :poke:
 
Thanks for the information, its good to know the non run flats are not going to be a problem re insurance.

I plan to stick with official upgrades rather than any "boy racer" specials. I will also hang on for a reasonably low mileage example as I will keep it for a while.
