Non run flats and cracking

Will be at the point soon where the front tyres need replacing. Currently they are Bridgestone RFTs.
Has there been a definite link between the chocolate 19" wheel cracking and the RFT tyres? Has anyone cracked wheels on the normal tyres?

Just wondering before I take the plunge.

Chocolate wheels? Anyways yes it seems to be that due to the stiffness of the run flats to allow them to still be driven on whilst 'flat' increased the chance of cracked rims. If you go over a pothole for example there is very little give in them and the force is transferred to the rim. A softer wall would allow for some dispersion of any shock thus elevating the amount of force transferred to the rim.

You can't 100% guarantee that you'll not get cracked rims but you'll decrease the chances. Plus non RFTs are cheaper, have great wet and dry handling whereas the potenzas are no longer what they used to be and in some tests can come last in wet test :o oh and the ride isn't as 'harsh'. Changing from RTFs to non RFTs will change the feel of the car.....on the other BMs I've had it always been for the better.

What's the current fave non-RFT tyres for E89s?

I've fitted mine with Michelin Pilot Sport 3's - and they feel fantastic in the wet and dry, and only cost £470 from BlackCircles.com for all four including fitting etc

Many have mentioned the Michelin Pilot Sport 2's or the Super Sport's (which are completely different and an even softer/stickier tyre) - but I've not been able to find them anywhere to fit both the front and back tyres...
