Non RFT, what's your back up plan?

Ahh thanks as usual CJ :thumbsup: So I assume the gunk plugs into the compressor?

I was looking as Michelin PS2 ZP for RFT replacement (I think the one that was repaired still has slow leak on it as the pressure dropped again after 3 weeks) but its eye wateringly expensive! Don't mind paying £250 to replace the one with puncture, but dont really want to pay another £750 to replace the other 3 (or £250 to replace the other rear tire and run on mix of bridgestone/michelin mix till the fronts need replacing). Might have to go for non RFT, buy the compressor kit and hope for the best :headbang:

Many of us have replace RFT's for a combination of increased comfort/ better ride and reduced costs. Of course the ///M as standard uses non RFT's
 
Yeah I was thinking of going non RFT before as many enthusiasts rave about it - been putting it off as my tires are almost new (I tink BMW replaced it under AUC scheme before I bought it). Now a nail is forcing my hand :thumbsdown:

Will have to give it a serious though soon. Buying crappy OEM bridgestone to replace like for like may be the cheapest option unfortunately :cry:

That slime is much better than the foam as it seals the punture by filling the hole with the solution you can put this stuff in the tyre before you get a flat and it will seal the hole before it deflates .

I have used it on motorcycles before now it just sits inside and coats the whole tyre , I picked up a nail once pulled it out spun the wheel round and it sealed it stright away saved me from being stuck in the middle of nowwhere or falling off !
 
Looking at the web, slime seems very popular for bikes. Not many selling kits but few shops (inc fleabay) selling the kit for about £25 here - expensive given americans sell it for $20 :o

Anyone has experience with slime? If not I'll probably go BMW OEM if I go for non RFTs.

Will try and find out how much the OEM kit is from the stealers seeing as there is only one "used" kit on fleabay for over £40 (and £11 P&P - what is the seller using, delivery by concord?)
 
I am keeping the run-flats until they get a bit lower before i change to non run-flat, in the mean time what do people recommend i do in case of a puncture?
I understand the concept of the run-flat but I dont want to be caught short anywhere in the UK, and i am looking at a European driving holiday this summer. Tyre garages may not be available at 4am in France!

Whats best for a short term fix for this minor problem?

Should i buy a small compressor and tyre gunk?

Take a space saver everywhere?
 
After several months of acquiring stuff for my non runflat backup - it is now ready and totally over the top

17" space saver from e46
tyre cover with Z4 decal
universal cargo net
torque wrench labelled at 120 NM
plastic covered wheel nut socket
electronic scissor jack (plugs into 12v socket)
4x4" block of wood in case scissor jack fails
wooden chocs for other wheels during tyre change
high viz jacket
light
gloves
half a hessian decorators sheet so I dont get dirty...

I will pay in slightly lower mpg and will only use on longer journeys
 
I discovered at the weekend that two large (400ml) cans of Holt Tyre Weld fit exactly in my standard BMW Oil Bag I have velcroed inside my boot. I bought a second (brand new) oil bag from ebay for a £2 a couple of weeks ago as I thought they were so useful :)

Now one bag has basic tools etc in it (no room next to the battery anymore unfortunately), and the other two cans of tyre weld. I couldn't face the prospect of opening the boot one day and discovering a can of the gunk had managed get punctured or burst.
