Non approved parts

I recently picked up a really annoying brake squeal, and it turns out that the car is running on non approved pads. I purchased it as an AUC in March so rather surprised, apparently it is not one of the checks! New approved pads have fixed the issue.

I had the same on my old E46. I installed non oem brake discs and pads and had a really annoying squeal. Eventually I replaced the parts with OEM discs and pads and that solved the problem.

It may work out to be more expensive but I will always stick with OEM brake parts after that experience...

Most of the time, putting copper slip between the pads & calipers solves most cases of brake squeal. Always seemed an irrelevant thing to do but has worked for me every time

Something to try next time

Meant to add I run Mintex discs & Red stuff pads... not a whisper

Any part that isn't stamped BMW is 'non-approved'.

Doesn't mean they're no good or dangerous.

What tyres do you have on? Anything other than the original Bridgestone RFTs are 'non-approved' (even though they're expensive, overly-stiff, and don't perform very well).

The comment from the dealer was that the pads were not sitting right. Not being a brake pad expert :-) I thought the best thing was to replace them.

Thats a new one to me! Theres only one way the pads can fit into the caliper. I would ask the dealer exactly what he/she means.

OEM pads are good and probably the best fit of backing plate with less rattle that is reported on some.
Biggest downside is they produce so much brake dust to have to clean off.
