Noisy exhaust

Evening, I’ve had the car (3.0i) a couple of weeks now and done about 400 miles and noticed that when you open her up a bit the exhaust gets really noisy. It’s a little too noisy for my liking and wondered if it had been modified in any way.

I know a lot of people like a loud exhaust but it’s too loud for me. Is there anyway of knowing if it’s been modified - any telltale signs

well the standard exhaust is pretty tame so its likely a modified box or aftermarket box, have you checked if both sponges are in the sound generator? if these are removed it can get a bit loud in the cabin when you open her up.
 
Check under the rear of the car and see if the pipes from the backbox have been cut and fixed again with clamps. This is a tell-tale sign the original box has been cut and replaced
 
Often cut here and fixed with clamps like these...

It could also be an aftermarket stainless jobby in which case it'll likely be far too small for the space it sits in

Well, i had a look tonight at the sound generator and it’s got no foam in it. So it seems that may be the culprit.

Can I put in any foam or can I block it off completely?
