Noisy coupe fuel pump

For a while now I've been able to a hear an internment 'whirring' behind me when your idling, decided to try and trace it yesterday and it appears I have a noisy fuel pump, my question is how much noise is too much and will this be impacting the cars performance? Because occasionally it does have a funny hesitation issue at high rpm that hasn't triggered a check engine light yet.

Are you running the fuel tank lower in these times of pricey petrol..mine was always noisier as the fuel tank got lower..the lower it got the louder it got..fill her up and nice and quiet

I thought about this to be honest, but I’ve always ran it to empty and then brimmed it, it’s currently on just under half a tank and I can hear it.

I guess its hard to know without getting it out and stripping it but they are generally quite noisy..if your gut is telling you the sound has changed and is getting worse then i would listen to that instinct..are you running the new e10 fuel ..is so might be worth changing to super and see if that helps

My fuel pump (I think that's what it is) makes a whining noise at idle / low revs after I've filled up the tank. Gradually gets less as the fuel is used up and disappears when the tank gets to about half full. It's no better or worse now than it was when I bought the car six years ago. So I've just learned to live with it.

Put half a bottle of Red X in the tank and go for a run.Someone passed this on to me when I had an e85 with a noisy pump.Worked in my case.

Is your battery up to a full charge? When my car has sat awhile and I have only driven it short distances my battery is not up to full charge and instead the normal fuel pump cycling sound when I turn the key (which is normally a series of short “zing” sounds), I get a low pitched groan. That sound can remain a while as the car idles before I drive off.

I have a charger that shows 4 lights when the battery is fully charged. I had the groan noise recently and it was only showing 2 lights. Had it on charge for an hour and it was up to 3 lights. Unplugged the charger and started the car, the fuel pump sound was back to normal. Plugged the charger back in to complete the charging.

I have had this happen several times and charging the battery has always worked for me. Worth a try!

Wynn's Formula Gold additive sorted mine, same principle of cleaning and lubricating the pump.
