Noisy alternator

I think I've got a noisy alternator in that it whines (I think) does anyone else have this problem or is it just a characteristic of the car?

i cant hear any whine in mine apart from the blower.

I'm pretty sure that a noisy belt tensioner idler is just as likely, and it is very close to the alternator. A lot cheaper to replace also
