Noise!

I have a Z4 09 with 19" wheels and the road noise is just too much. My wife does not appreciate this.
Anyone else got this problem?

Any car with ruddy great wheels and tyres and a soft top will be noisy. They all are unfortunately. Some tyre makes are quieter than others, but it comes with the package of low riding sports car.If you want silent motoring, you've bought the wrong car. Same applies if yours is the folding hardtop, but less so. Mine feels near silent over the winter months when I fit the hardtop, then flippin noisy when I take it off in the spring.

well in my experience runflats don't help, you might as well drive on a solid cart wheel , having said that its really the nature of the beast We have a Boxster also and thats pretty rough especially now with all the potholes.

Post No 2 - welcome to the Forum! All been said I think - it's a sports car and as you sit between the axles rather than above them (saloon car style) it will make it much noisier. Certainly a change from RFT to a good quality 'normal' tyre will make a difference as will a change to a smaller wheel size.

Hi, Do you have the E89 Z4 with the metal folding roof?

If you're running 19s there's a good chance they'll be running nice wide rear tyres which create a nice amount of noise - noticed it going from 225s to 255s on mine. I personally don't think the RFTs are any noisier than standard tyres, rolling noise, although they do crash more through pot holes. Do you know what the tyres are? If you've got asymmetric tyre they'll be a bit nosier too, in my experience.

All of that aside, these aren't the best cars for keeping out the road noise, as has already been mentioned.
