noise in roof up and down

Today I put the top down, driving down the street over a couple of bumps i heard a djing sound like having two spanners in the boot touching when going over the bump, sure the sound was nearside rear. On the way home put the top up and realised a noise is comming from the roof, sounds different now like a rod vibrating, loose at one end maybe, only when going over rough surface. Any ideas, a year ago the dealer changed the motor unit as roof not going up all has been good since and roof goes up and down smooth.
 
Hi, the noise is in the roof it just has a different sound with the top down, then it sounds like from the rear.
 
Sorry you are correct, broken spring, went out again and with top up same noise returned finally piece of spring dropped off, found it on the road. car is handling ok looks like it's one turn of top or bottom, next question is it ok to drive.
 
It's fine to drive if it's just a part of one of the end turns. Most people only find out when they fail the MOT.

It will need replacing of course as soon as you can decide what to replace with.
