Noise from the rear of the car...continued

Hi everyone,

I had previously posted about the rear end of the car being a bit rattly/knocky. In order to try and address this I added the RTAB limiter kit and also replaced my top mounts, the RTABs themselves were in pretty good shape.

However, the back end of the car still makes an odd knocking sound when going over bumps or flaws in the road.

Has anyone got any other suggestions as to what it might be?

Exhaust / springs / and it sounds stupid but if that metal tow eye hook in the boot isn't wedged in tightly in the plastic holder, then that will rattle and knock around and make a bit of a racket!

I had that annoying knock/rattle and replaced the RTABs when adding the limiters. OEM spec RTABs are pretty cheap from ECP. The indy said they looked fine when he removed them to fit the new ones but it did seem to fix the noise. But I also noticed the handbrake didn't need a double pull anymore after that (the 1st would restore the tension then the 2nd pull worked the brake properly) although he said he hadn't done anything to it. Never was sure if it was the RTABs or perhaps lack of tension in the handbrake mechanism but it's been perfect since.
If your handbrake is fine then it's not that anyway and I feel like I'm just rambling now :oops:

98% sure (I'd have said 99.9% until you actually asked me the question outright). Why, what are you thinking Bing?

99Ron and Ed, I will give the handbrake (which I think is ok) and rear drop links a look.
 
Well, I had an odd knocking sound that sounded like it was coming from the front but also could just as easily have been the exhaust knocking, also over rougher road surfaces. Kind of like banging a hollow pipe on the road maybe ? Like something was loose ? The garage thought it could be top mounts the first time they looked at it. Turned out it was absent engine mounting plate bolts, allowing the plate and the whole engine to move about. Not a common problem, but a known one, and there's a few threads on it.

Hi buddy
I know said has ARBs fitted
But perhaps as is a common issue with oem rear springs, perhaps one has gone?
They're not massive 20cm orso in length
Perhaps one has cracked or split or broken near top or base and only obvious when under pressure of an uneven road??

Just a thought or the drop link from arb to frame?

Cheers for all the suggestions guys, haven't got round to looking at them yet. Hoping to do so this weekend. The car passed the MOT last week, with no advisories, so you would imagine the springs can definitely be ruled out. Still, will check it all over and see what's going on.
 
Yeah appears a common failure but oddly only at rear?

After having new ones in hand then oem once off car the quality difference is very apparent

Added stress and strain power of rear and short stubby springs I guess will go
