Noise coming from wheels/suspension

Hi everyone

Just noticed a squeaking noise from my passenger side, seems to be front wheel but upon inspection can’t see anything visible.

I just changed the wheels a few days ago to the attached bbs split rims, I didn’t notice a noise initially so unsure if unrelated. Car has 125,000 miles on the clock.

E85, 3.0 - any advice would be great and how to check/diagnose the issue if suspension related.

Thanks

Are the new wheels or tyres rubbing somewhere? That would be the obvious thing to check first, particularly if the offset or wheel width has changed.

Make sure that the new wheels are properly torqued, if they are torqued to spec and not rubbing anything, then I don't think it could be them that's the culprit. Does the noise change or get worse if you are going around a corner, or if you are going over bumps?

It sounds like they are, but then quick visual inspection doesn’t look like it. I will jack it up tomorrow, the width at the rear has changed, they are 255 tyres at the rear and previously they were 225 all round. Is there anything I need to buy if they are rubbing? Like a spacer perhaps ?

255 tires should fit easily, I have 265 on mine.

You need to know the offset of the alloy to determine exactly where the wheel will sit within the arch relative to the hub. If the wheel is too far inboard or outwards there could be rubbing on either side of the tyre, or the shock, or the brake assembly.

I would advise taking the wheel off sharpish and have a really good inspection to see if anything has been scratched/scraped. If the alloy is hitting the brake or suspension or it will be obvious! If the rubber is hitting something perhaps less so - my OSF tyre occasionally hits the front upper edge of my arch liner and has worn a hole [new shocks and springs going on!] but there is no evidence whatsoever on the rubber.
