I was told that "Owning a convertible in England is pointless since the weather is so bad". We were standing next to my car at the time.

I nodded slowly before agreeing whole heartedly

You secretly wished he was right, and that you had a roadster :)

I secretly wished he would go away!

I was queueing up to get on the Dover ferry last year. The marshall gives me my boarding pass then leans in, the following conversation happened:

Him: Is it modified?

Me: No

Him: You should get it chipped. My mate has a 328i whos had it chipped, it now does 200mph.

Me (coming across all polite and English): Ohhh really that's impressive, will have to look into it!

Where do I get this chip?

(you are allowed to tell me to eff off once you realise my irony)

They're only available if you have a double inverse underbonnet chip-tronic giggle sprocket.

Don't think many zeds came with that option :(

Damn I so wish I had taken that option instead of the single inverse giggle sprocket :headbang: :headbang:

He was lying, you dont need a chip, you can get 200mph with one of those resistors off ebay. And if you combine it with a computer fan in the air box, well, you cannot because it would be just too fast!

To be fair to the post and my moaning he insisted that paddle-shift was faster gear change and I had trouble explaining to him that I could not care less about gaining a few seconds here or there, what mattered was the pleasure if driving. He just looked puzzled.

True though that we ought to do our best to educate people. I give a good "lecture" about how old the basic architecture of the straight 6 is dating from the touring races of between Jag and BMW in the 70's. How rare is is to get above 100 bhp per litre on an NA engine etc.

We could create a historical fact part of the forum for educational purposes?

Now that's a mod I would like: the ability to add a modern touchscreen satnav (iPad3 whatever) into the dash ... bit of cutting ... and hey presto ... you've got like the latest coolest car on the road.

I swapped my Titanium silver zed ........ for a red M series.

I was a hairdresser in the Silver one apparently, in the Red 'un, Im a proper bloke. Simple really .......... :D

Not so much someone saying something about my car, but in a pub a guy was telling me how his Escort would just about hit 110mph and that was 'bouncing off the limiter'. He continued 'But I can now hit about 140mph down the <local dual carriageway>'. I responded 'so you changed your gear ratios?'. He then explained he tweaked the fuel pump to get 'a lot more horsepower'.

Its all about powerbands, you can buy new improved powerbands on ebay and just swap them with your old slow powerbands. The ones you take out can be sold to anyone in a mc donalds carpark at about 10 pm, you normally get top value from the owners of cars with suspicious green or blue glows from underneath.

"So how does the top come down on this one, I've not seen many like that?"

It's a coupe pal, that's why it doesn't look like a roadster  I've had that one a few times!

I changed my ordinary power bands for those red ones the postman always seems to drop outside my flat - they work a treat! Tell you what, I'll post some to you for a fiver :P

Every time I pull up my friends garage one of his guys always shouts across the workshop " who wants their hair cut "

Original I know!!

:o Well, I did once get "nice car love, get your tits out" shouted at me in a car park. Guess that could be classed as the same thing?
