So, after getting very excited about retro fitting cruise control and reading all the threads on here about beiong able to do the //M even though BMW says you can't, I called my local main stealer who called back and said it can't be done on the 2.0.

Is this right?

Dont think what he said is correct.

See here : http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/E85/Roadster/Europe/Z4_2.0i-N46/LHD/N/2005/may/browse/distance_systems_cruise_control/installing_set_cruise_control/#65 71 0 153 114

And I have found a pdf file for this here: http://thegannet.bulldoghome.com/pages/thegannet%5Fbulldoghome%5Fcom/CCInstructions.pdf

There are some differences related to the production date though.

EDIT: As I have seen, It is easier and less parts required for cars built before 10/2004. But IT CAN BE done to our models as well. See the 2nd link for instructions

EDIT2: See also some discussions here: http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2529

The same part number fits all models except the ///M so the dealer is as so often talking rubbish

DIY -it's not a difficult mod to do on the Z4

If you're not comfortable, print out the PDF instructions and go visit you local auto electrician. They'll be able to advise and do it for you.

If I every gat my car back from the delar I might install on mine after looking through the PDF.

From memory I can just get the switch and wiring for around £75 and forget the lower cowl and use the trusty Dremel, is that correct?

Those figure sound about right. When I did mine I just purchased the switch for £80. The lower cowl can be Dremelled to shape and infact even has the correct cut lines marked on it, presumably for use in a different moulding machine.

All wires, harnesses, etc. are available as individual items, just that some dealers seem to forget to look on the system in detail to find the bits.

I just got a quote out of intrest from Cooper Colchester, because I am toying with the idea myself. They just quoted £338.28 parts, fitting and VAT to my 2008 2.0 Edition. Would nt mind having a go myself, but would nt there be some programming or software updates to do or is it just plug and play ?

It is just plug and play,

I did mine, took me 15 mins and that includes making a cup of coffee, it really is a very simple job

I purchased a cruise stalk on Wednesday from BMW £76.96 + Vat. Both Bath & Bristol BMW quoted me the same price. Only thing it's coming from Germany :x

Those instructions referenced are from my very simple website

When I did mine the kit with the cowl,. wiring and switch cost £150, dealer wanted another £150 for fitting

On mine it was simple as the wiring was already present, past Oct '04 the wiring from the kit is req. and is more involved but the instructions in the PDF cover it.

If the wiring is present it is a 10-15 minute job. either way no programming

Cheers for that. I will download that PDF but just for the mo, on a post 2004 car what is everything I should expect in the kit ? You know these dealers (sold me a wind deflector and did nt tell me I needed new roll hoop covers) Is running the new wiring complex ? does it go throgh into the engine bay ? :|

reading the PDF yes it does look to go through the engine bay...

mine is an March 04 car though so the wiring was simply there... so cant comment really on how complex the wiring is...

erm my kit included the cowl, wiring and switch, only used the cowl and switch and sold the wiring. I know other have purchased just the switch from the dealers but I wouldnt know if those included any wiring or not...

Can get you the part no I ordered if req.
