no rear springs in the country.....

been waiting now for 2 months for a set of rear springs from my local bmw dealer.... he said rear springs have been on back order for some time now my warranty runs out at the end of june and i have contacted most of the bmw dealers in yorkshire and they all say the same non in the country and i have to wait for the next shipment from germany.
my car is a 2005 05 3.0 litre se model.

anybody else had the same problem.....
 
I got mine changed at B&M care in Leeds and it only took them 4 days to get my rear springs.

Just proves how many snap if the dealers dont have any stock in the UK.
 
I phoned for spring replacement 2 days before my car was in the BMW garage for another reason. I think they are chatting rubbish or not trying hard enough to source some.

It shouldn't make a diffirence about your warranty as it was highlighted prior to it running out.
 
I found out mine had gone last Monday and they said there was none in the country at the time, they rang yesterday to say it was in and they would fit it this Monday, two months ???? I dont think so.

How do I know if the rear spring is broken without inpsecting it? Measuring the ride height?

Mine was in having the brake fluid changed, so they picked it up on one of their helath checks,, run it in to your local garage or stealer and ask them to check for you, you cant always tell when the go, unless you are pushing the car, some say they hear it go, but I have the stereo so loud I have got no hope of hearing it :D
 
My car went in for morning at PMW chelmsford for an oil service and brake fluid change, passenger side rear coil spring is broken near the bottom which confirms my suspicions as to why the handling felt a little unsettled of late. I had no abnormal noises or clonking to give it away but suspected a fault on this side as the ride height looked a little lower. I didn't tell them this though and suprised they found it as you cannot see the problem easily by eye - only feel it if you run your hands around the coils when up on a ramp.

The service chap showed it to me (had to feel around for a ather sharp edge!) and I should have two new rear m sport coil springs arriving from BMW GB parts on Tuesday - parts are very low on quantity though so I am told hence getting them ordered striaght away so they may be fitted at my leisure :o
 
Had BMW improved the Z4's springs? Or should owners still expect new springs will only last 30-40k miles?

I bought my Z4 2 months ago with 12-month MOT. The car has now done 44k miles. I'm not sure if the springs had been replaced before. Or they will break at any time if they are still original from production.
 
well can you believe it......decided to pop into dealer this morning to see whats happening with my springs and to be told yes they have been in stock for the past 2 weeks... :headbang: i am not a mind reader why didnt anybody call me :x dealer appologised and said we will fit them on tuesday along with a brake fluid change. still under extended warranty so £100 excess to pay with a further £56 plus vat for the brake fluid change.
 
I'm paying £260 all in for my rear springs to be replaced, would love to know what BMW would charge at a main stealer!
 
I had this last week, on the Easter Monday bank holiday of all days. No rear springs to be had anywhere and an already-expired MOT. I have ordered and paid for them (£270 - ouch!) and have been told to expect them "sometime in the next three weeks". Grrrr...... :thumbsdown:
 
If you are able to take off a rear wheel and refit you can fit rear springs!

Its that easy.

Remove rear wheel, undo lower bolt holding suspension strut, the strut will drop remove spring and swap for new one, refit bot and tighten, refit wheel...jobs a gud un!

Save yourself £100 and do it yourself, should take no longer than 30 mins. :thumbsup:

Really?
I've changed two rear springs on my zed now and removing the bolt at the bottom of the shock doesn't allow the suspension to drop enough to simply seat a new srping in. I have to use spring compressors. still, there's no denying it's a 15min simple job.
I was told i might have to wait a week for a spring to arrive as they were having stock isues. however turned up in two days. :thumbsup:
maybe being m-sport springs (i don;t mean z4m springs) they were less in demand than the standard ones.
 
When mine went (both of them within two days) they had replacement items in stock at the dealership. Probably a wise strategy considering that it seems a fairly common problem; it's probably a nice reliable revenue stream.

If I recall correctly, the main stealer quoted me £155 fitted each corner back in April '08.
