No OBD comms

I would try the code reader on another car before you start pulling your Z4 apart. Seems more likely that the code reader might be the problem rather than the car.

Code reader worked in another car no problem. I also checked the battery (charged) to ensure there was good power getting to the electrical system.

It's quite a jump to assume the gateway is faulty just because a generic code reader won't work.

Check for bent pins on the OBD connector first then make sure the fuse for the OBD port is OK.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I'm not using a generic code reader, but rather a Autophix BMW diagnostic scanner tool.

I ordered a new JBE last week and am hoping that might show the first step in receiving codes from the vehicle. Wish me luck.

UPDATE - My multi-system failure has been cured! Looks like the JBE was indeed the culprit. After installing the new one the car is back online. While I still have some more testing to do, the following items are now operational:

Rear windows
Windshield wipers
Power steering
OBD II comms
Parking brake
Gauge cluster (speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge)

I still have to test the heated seats, convertible top, and ensure that it gets out of limp mode, but all that is for this weekend after I put the thing back together. Thanks everyone on the board for the comments and assist and will keep you posted.
