No More Z4M

Given the current economic crisis there is no business case for a full-on M version of the Z4.

They are absolutely right in not making one now given the economic downturn, but in a couple of years when the market has bounced up again, they'll be making one...

As has been stated before, the previous Z4M did not arrive until 3 years after the first Z4, and after the first facelift. 3 years is still a long way and much will happen in that time, also that M facelift stuff they talk about.

So what's wrong with a 326bhp twin turbo? Probably half the £400 Road Tax of my ///M & much more smoother gearchanges. I'm a contender if they produce it. The ///M badge has devalued over the years & just means over inflated servicing costs & 23mpg. When you can buy a 330D & spend £300 on a re-map to get nigh on ///M performance for 40+ mpg & half the insurance/Road tax you have to be Barking Mad to buy the ///M today.

Mines up for sale this week...... :D

The 335i is in the next to top VED band, price between this and top band is neither here nor there. Whether the new Z4 is in this band or not remains to be seen.
There is more to an M car than straight line pace.

You`re just trying to talk yourself into selling it  . Come on, a 330D sounds saloon sounds nothing like a 3.2 litre high revving two seaters sports car, tuned to the ears (partly due to lack of sound deadening).

£300 remap invalidates the warranty, and increases the liklinhood of turbo failure - they all fail eventually, and decreases the resale value

M division stated there would be no Z4M in 2002 either, same story repeated with the Z3M when the Z3 was fresh out, so I would not take that news item too seriously.
There are several factors that come into play here:

1) They don't want people to hold back their money waiting for an M version.
2) Limits to engine production - one of the reasons BMW decided to wait with the M versions of the previous Z4 was that engine production capacity for the 3.2 was at full steam, trying to cope with M3 orders. The V8 M3 last year sold very well, 2008 being a strong year for the M division even when BMW AG dropped in sales. A total of almost 18 000 M3's were sold. So until M3 sales does not drop off and they need to sell more engines, we will probably not see a Z4M.

3) Press coverage. the new Z4 is already a hot item, getting front page many places. Once interest drops off and they feel they need some more attention, they will 'be considering making a Z4M after all'.
4) Economical downturn - in a couple of years the numbers are headed all way up again and the situation will be different.

Of course, I could be wrong. I don't think so, but time will show.

Color, you're bang on mate. Although personally i hope they don't ever make one as that should help the value of or cars and also because i'll not buy one until 3 years after launch (about 6 years from now i reckon). I won't suffer that depreciation again.

Also Color, i think i've told ou before thati don't like you using that photo of my wife for your avatar!

The problem here is that the Mealy Mouthed British Government Ministers who have (despite virtually none of them have a driving licence - certainly one-eyed Gordon Brown doesn't!) are punishing performance car drivers with £400 Road Tax in their pathetic efforts to drive the big BMW X5's etc off the roads.

It's really hilarious when you consider that this Government is proposing to bring down the "A" road National speed limit to 50mph in April 2010. So why do they allow the sale of cars capable of 155mph to be sold in the UK today when the Maximum limit is 70mph? In the same way they are more than happy to sell a packet of fags for +£5.00, take the tax of about £4.00 then spend millions on adverts telling us all that smoking kills. Wasters one & all!!

The non-driving wasters (who are very happy to use a Government Car Pool Jaguar or 4 ton Armoured Range Rover @ 8mpg) are hypocrytes of the highest order. They bleed us dry daily. Just look at the news today.... The bastards are paid over £56,000 a year with over £220,000 available as "expenses" but as they are now threatened with having to make public their "expenses" claims later this year the greedy buggers are asking for another £40,000 to take their salary to £96,000 + "expenses".

God help you all when you are made redundant this year - as many of you will be. Just make sure your mortgage is fully paid off.

Of course, I could be wrong. I don't think so, but time will show. It will be interesting to see the next post that bemoans being burgled or ripped off by an Eastern European. In 1997 I lived in Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzovogenia. Every Sunday there was a car market in the football stadium. Each & every car was high value. You could buy a £80K car for £15K. They were all stolen in Germany, Holland etc. & brought into Bosnia/Serbia on enormous car transporters. A few Euros paid to the utterly corrupt Bosnian/Serbian/Croatian "Police" let them through. Virtually every BMW/Mercedes in Bosnia/Serbia is stolen. They even leave the original German/Austrian number plates on & the corrupt police do nothing.

So when your high value car is stolen you need to contact the Italian Police initially, but they won't do anything as they are paid by the Bosnian Mafia. Your car will either go by a deliberately unchecked container to Split or on a car transporter through Slovenia direct to the Serbian war criminals cartel in Belgrade.

If they do make an M version, they should ditch the folding roof...bring back the rag-top and coupe. Not interested in a suped up SLkDrive 35 AMG either, it'll be too much like a Merc; a big softy and no good in the bends!

I've had my Z4MR for a year now, toured round France in it last summer. I love the M six pot. Like the idea of the Z4 inheriting the S65B40 engine as well! Although, i'd still jump at the chance of an improved version of the S54 in the new Z4! :D

My SLK has lost over £200 per week since I bought it so TBH I couldn't care less about £400 per year road tax.

Excellent photos SepangBronzeZ4MR, I always liked that colour on Z4 Ms.

I also think they'll eventually do an M version of the new one in a couple of years. However few they sell im guessing the profit margin on such cars is still quite high so there's no reason not to.
