No More RFT's

Hi, i changed my tyres for the first time at the weekend. I replaced the RFT with Faulken 452's. Very happy with them so far. The RFT light is lit up on my dash. I was surprised that i couldn't find a thread which showed you how to reset or get rid of the light. Can anyone here help me take the light off my sash please, thanks in advance

make sure your tyres are inflated...

turn the ignition on and press and hold the button next the hood control with an icon that looks like the dashboard light... hold till the dash light flashes then go for a drive. It should go out after that

Thanks for that, will try this after work, this might be a very silly question (as i am not really aware of how the RFT system works), but is the pressure still being monitored even though the tyres are no longer RFT's...

Monitoring system works on rotational differences caused by loss of pressure (on UK cars at least) so yes they are still monitored

Phewwwhhh, i tought i was being silly asking that question. Ok, i need to reset the light and also check what pressure the "tyre guys" set my pressure to, after reading the "official falken tyre pressure thread, i'm gonna try 32 rear & 31 front... thanks again

Set the pressure first and the figures you have are good enough to start with. Do the reset and then drive for a few miles and it will figure out all is well.

On your model the car calculates the rotation of each wheel using the ABS sensor. So after you have driven a few miles left and rights should equalise and then as gannet says it would detect any loss of pressure by a change in in rolling radius of any one wheel Vs it's opposite.

Simple (well probabbly not actually) but works really well and spotted a cracked rim on my car in a very short distance.

I pulled into a garage / service station on the way home from work last night to adjust and set the tyre pressure on my new falkens and i couldn't believe what i was reading on the pump

All 4 tyres were set to completely different pressures

right back: 40
left back: 36
right front: 38
left front: 34

I set them to 32 rear and 31 front... it felt like i was driving on putty, all the usual pot holes and cracks that i have to role over each evening / morning felt like i was running over a pebel... :D

I couldn't believe what the "tyre guys" set the pressure to... i couldn't help think that there must be loads of cars (not just z4s) on the roads who don't have owners that are as "motor enthusiastic" about their cars as we may be here

Anyway, on a quick note, i am very happy with the falkens, feels like i am driving a different car altogether, much more planted...

The Falkens are good in my opinion. They do feel softer generally, but they are still 'sharp' when you start asking more of them, ie, quick direction changes I'd say they react as fast as the RFT Bridgestones, just they don't feel 'sharp' all the time (a good and bad thing, but 90% of the time a good thing :) )

Mine were at random pressures all round too, they just fill them up and I guess leave you to sort them out...

Not as bad as my car when I bought it, apparently it had a 150+ point check before I picked it up, but all four tyres were 25psi or under, some as low as 12psi

I guess they wernt cold then.

I checked the pressure on mine a week after fitting to find the fitters had used the figures on the door plates to put in 30 front and 35 rear, I have changed to 30 and 32 for the moment.

Replaced Bridgestones last saturday with Eagle Gts and had the same issue when I checked at home rear tires at 38 and 32 and front at 33 and 34. You would think tire place would get it right. Love the difference in ride and noticably better on the trammling. W rated so still hard but not near the RFTs.

How many people don't read their manual? :poke:

So much information is held within, well worth a few reads!
