it does cost me about £3000 a year to run so £1 a mile!

I know you love to crunch numbers so how about the Lexus CT200 for comparison ? Been looking into them for my dad as a replacement for his C Class estate & the figures are a claimed cost of £77 per every 1000 mile :o they are Hybrids so zero roadtax & up to 80mpg  mind blowing really

My soon to be brother in-law has one, nice cars, good size too oh and some great toys!.. I agree with you great value for money to run and not too bad to look at either. I'm actually considering the new Seat Leon Cupra DSG which I know isnt massively cheaper to run but once it gets to 3 years old and the depreciation gets a bit better its a good option.

I will consider the CT200h though as a hybrid probably would suit my driving needs quite well.

So basically you just needed a hug, by way of seeing how nice people were about your 'ambitious' pricing strategy ?

From you bing anytime! :friends:

Partially yes and also partially I was just putting it out there in case anyone was looking for a very similar spec, you never know.. I dont think the price tag is 90% off the lowest value mark, but maybe 5%?

Comments on price are interesting as I have the same car albeit its 30k more miles no sat nav and manual and people thimk I am optimitic at 9k. M interior red, black.

Looking on pistonheads most cars are priced over 11k so why is 12.5 optimistic.

Good luck wiyh your sale

£12.5k wouldn't be but the OP is asking £15k.... do keep up :poke:

Very nice example; will be interested to see how you get on with this sale. I'm thinking to shift mine at some stage soon also; similar spec to yourself - will probably put up a similar post in the not too distant future. Good luck!

£3k? Why so much?
Including petrol in that calculation I imagine..
Tax: £285
Insurance: £600? (guessing)
Service + MOT: £600
Balance - Petrol: ~£1500..

I can believe that

Ok so here are my calculations:

CAP Valuation

the CAP valuation of my exact car is £9,400 trade in clean. Naturally this is way off the mark as we all know. I tend to tell people to add £1-2k to this mark as a standard.

My Valuation Algorithm

My own depreciation algorithm puts my car at £8,852 if at average mileage. This is based on 22% return of the original cost. 22% is what I equate an 8 year old car to retain and my car will be 8 in March.

I adjust mileage accordingly by £50 per 1k miles. As such 80k miles - 44k miles = 36k x £50 = £1,750 which gives me an overall valuation of £8,852 + £1,750 = £10,602. So this is still way out..

Autotrader Comparison

Just taking one look at autotrader tells you this is completely out. So ignore all of the above and now look at an alternative approach.

There are presently 51 x Z4 Coupes for sale on Autotrader, of which only 21 are automatics. Of those 21, 2 have sat nav. Their prices are £14,500 (77k miles) & £14,995 (40k miles) both being sold by independent dealers. Not BMW.

Pistonheads Comparison

Pistonheads have 5 Automatic Coupes for sale, of which 2 have sat nav, but one of those is also listed on autotrader so I shall ignore it. The other is an 07 car with 60k on the clock and is priced at £12,495. Its a higher spec car than the BMW car below but has higher miles. At this price they value its retention at 33%.

eBay Comparison

eBay have 7 unique Auto Coupes listed, of these none have sat nav. But their prices vary between 11 and 15k based on age, condition, mileage, spec, etc.

BMW Comparison

BMW themselves have 1 Automatic Coupe for sale with sat nav. Its a March 07 (exact same as mine) with 41k miles on the clock. It has MSFW, extended storage, heated seats, PDC, Sat nav, Sun Protection Glass and Bluetooth and is grey with black leather, aluminium trim and 135 alloys. So about half the options mine has.

Based on that spec, the original value of BMW's car was £37,720. Which means based on my depreciation algorithm it is worth £10,248 now (at 22%) when in fact they value it at £13,175 which is 35% of the original value of the car.

Conclusion

So if I apply 35% to my car it should be valued at £14,082. Now obviously I dont have the BMW brand / warranty behind me but looking at the above I would say that 35% is a realistic value to place the car at based on spec, miles, condition etc. Therefore perhaps I have priced it about £500 over what I should have..

Thoughts? :D

Have you allowed for a smaller target market being automatic? Not sure if that is a positive as the target market is smaller and there are fewer about, or a negative.

I think its both. Niche market, less prospective buyers but also less prospective sellers. There are probably less than 35 Coupe autos for sale right now in total so if someone wanted a low mileage high spec one, probably a choice of 5

her'e's a question, excluding M's then what percentage of coupes would you think are automatic?

But you're allowing £750 p/a for depreciation - if you think it's worth your £15k asking price that'll be more like £350 p/a depreciation...

...and you've got £236 in for tyres! At 3000miles p/a a set of tyres will last 5-6 years so much less that £236 p/a...

...and petrol prices are dropping all the time, so that £817 will be more like £550 this year....

... so that's got it down below £2k p/a...

...getting cheaper all the time...

...might as well keep it....

:P
