No FM signal after headunit change

Hi. I'm a new z4 owner and am having FM signal issues. It's a 2004 e85 and had the 6 speaker business headunit. It had a reception although not great. I have replaced the headunit with a pioneer and it will not pickup any signal at all.
Is the aerial amplifier powered by headunit blue wire or do need a fakra convertor with the power lead.
Loving the car and working my way through some common issues, door bowden and window regulator. Thanks

The previous owner replaced the HU in my zed.
The FM signal is very poor so I am watching this thread eagerly!
Is this commonly because the amp is recieving no power?
What is the solution? Is there an adapter that has a power wire to phantom feed the amp?

I removed the aerial amplifier from mine and the radio still worked fine from an FM

I have read that BMW actually changed the design of the amplifier after 2001 so that is is powered seperately. Not sure if this is true or not.
Where is the amplifier located? I need to have a poke around to see what is really going on.

Directly under the aerial base unit secured with a T20 bolt.
