No driving for me for a while :(

And it was helpful info, yeah - not a bill
I am sure! Just trying for some anaesthetic/orthopaedic banter but the bait hasn't been bitten :?

Shhhh...! The bill comes once he's accepted and acted upon the advice, thus formally entering into a contract. Don't give the game away!

Sadly, an exam in three days and the singularly poor amounts of revision I have managed thus far preclude my biting any further...

Mock clinical / viva for FRCS (orth).
Not allowed to apply for the real thing if I don't pass...
Thanks

jumped off an obscenely high wall, whilst drunk, in a stupid and naive fashion. Only got myself to blame, so not expecting any sympathy. I did it 2 weeks ago, Doctor says 6 weeks in back brace with a further 4 off heavy lifting. I can feel it getting moderately better but unfortunately in the mean time there is nothing i can do but sit on my silly ass and do nothing, as moving around too much will compromise the healing process. Ive chipped a piece of bone clean off and got myself a lateral fracture of L1 vertebrae, hopefully it'll knit back together ok, with a 100% recovery possible. Fingers crossed.

Ouch! Sounds like reasonable advice - i trust it was from a spinal surgeon. I did a few months neuro/spinal surgery and avoiding an operation is a good thing if possible so heed his advice and give it the best chance of healing. (BTW if you smoke (sorry to accuse you if you dont!!), stop immediately as smoking greatly compromises healing - as well as everything else!).

Hope you feel better soon

Ben - gutted for you mate. My recent broken and dislocated shoulder had me literally out of the driving seat for two months last year and it's the most frustrating thing. Hope you have a speedy recovery and just focus on the gorgeous driving weather that will hopefully be around when you get back in the saddle

Yes it was a spinal surgeon, it was 50/50 whether i was going to have surgery or not as he wasnt 100% sure it was stable, after a CT scan though he was more satified. The original doctor who saw me in casualty looked at the x-ray, just gave me a load of painkillers and sent me on my way! The spinal surgen i saw at fracture clinic last week nearly pulled me in there and then for surgery but as i said after a CT scan he sorted me a brace and told me to go home and rest.

I do smoke, but only 1 or 2 (and this is no typical underestimation, i literally have one after lunch and one after dinner), is this going to affect things greatly or is it more your 20 a day smokers? I know it restricts blood flow, i suppose i could stop it would be no biggie.

I got my cast off this am - replaced by a thermoplastic splint that i'm allowed to remove some of the time! Still no driving whilst my hand is as it is though.

They also think theres a chance it may only be down to bruising, which could recover in 4-6 weeks, rather than the several months I was told to expect. Not getting my hopes up for that, but it'd be nice!

I do smoke
:x give up! Am I really going to say anything else?! (and before you say, I know a load of Drs smoke!)

Ok you could say one or two will have much less effect than 20, but if you want to have no effect, you need to smoke no cigarettes!

Nag over... 8)
