No dipstick - 2007- readout meanings

Hi all, I'm a new owner so bear with...

When I press the oil check light, only two bars show; last time I checked it was one below the maximum. I still get the 'ok' readout, but what does this actually mean; is the oil level low, or is it referring to viscocity..?

You need 0.75l.
I fail to understand why anyone would wait. If you go to the trouble of checking it then stick the required amount in now.

My 330i has the same set up. When it gets down to half-way I put 500ml in. I don't like the idea of waiting until it needs a whole litre!
