No Comfort Access - keyless start??

things getting way too technical on new cars such as new parts coded to vehicle etc etc sounds like a lot of wasted driving time to me .

Try holding the key next to the slot and sticking your finger into the slot - see if the ignition comes on! I'm not sure where the microswitch is, but it's not going to be that small or intricate - the key is quite a blunt object.

If the works, see how far you can get the key away from the slot and still get the ignition on.

As someone says, it might be RFID and have a very short range and actually need to be in the slot - we won't know until it's tried.

Agreed on the 1 series - it will be trying to read data from the 1er key and correctly denying the ability to start the car.

Easier just to reduce your number of keys. Banham make locks which can all be operated with one personal key. So even if you have 2 front door locks a back door lock and a padlock on your shed you have just one key. So no jangling. Much better than putting fingers in slots not designed for fingers... IMO

Ive noted this myself with the key removed the car would restart.

Before going further with this would need to check on a few things.

Is it a timer function - if so then you really need to consider how it works. You could be putting your life at risk. if it is a timer and you pull out and stall you are putting yourself in harms way. would it start again ? I really wouldnt like to be in that position especially with a 44 ton truck on the approach. Id look at removing the key and then restarting the car place the key on the passenger seat and then stop and restart the car. do a 10 second delay between stop and start. and then a 20 second delay.

You also have to consider what has been pointed out about the recharge function what if the key had enough charge to allow a start and then its sat in your pocket and its not picking up a charge. The key is then without a proper charge and you pull out infront of a truck and cant get the car to restart.....

worth considering.
