oh my god.. how cool is this..

http://www.bimmernav.com/store/catalog/ ... cts_id=180

you need the oem tv though.. who's first to play ? *starts saving 2k* =)

looks pretty useful when the dog walks past... and the lcd in the z4 is in the line of sight.. if it was $800 id consider it, & im sure it wont be that money for many years =)

^^ agreed.. i dont doubt the price at all. IR tech is expensive. but over time (10 years) price would come down and even ford focus, and geo metros will come with it stock.

The BIG problem with this is, you have to be watching the screen while you're driving.
Eyes off the road gets a big NO from me.
That applies to iDrive & NAV too.

JMO, but it'd be far more useful with intelligent thermal software that generated a HUD warning instead

Your eyes aren't off the road. You can use the screen to drive the car instead.

Some day, cars probably won't even have windshields. You'll just step in and be surrounded by screens that produce three dimensional imagery from cameras outside of the car. That's is pretty cool, and the cars would look pretty slick without glass. Safer too, since you are protected by a lot more metal. They already do this in tanks don't they?

Nah...
They'll be teleporting before that happens

Do you know if its possible to connect and install software on the standard screen for a standard camera? My thinking is you could have a very cool camera pointing out from somewhere in the rear light cluster to see a better view of behind you and have the option to view on screen..

Yep there's a BMW retrofit part for rear cameras too.

Do a search or have a look on Realoem.com

You need the OEM TV though to make it work, there are aftermarket options but seem pretty much as expensive.

You can get the IR camera for less than £200 and then you'll only need the TV module and some way of switching between the views at night-time.

Can't see how they can sell it for £2500.
